My Experience

Nursery Assistant
During my time at the nursery I was involved in the care of children aged 0-1 years. The room I was based in I helped to attend to the children's needs, both physically and emotionally. I was involved in the planning of activities some led by myself and structured the day. I was able to further my knowledge of this age group and the specific needs they hold, aid development with learning, feeding, toileting and exploration. I maintained a great relationship with both children and staff and also parents who I conversed with during pick up times. I was able to use my friendly and approachable manner to address any issues, and enjoyed the responsibility and both independent and team based aspects. I completed tasks to a high standard efficiently and compassionately, and developed great time management and planning skills during a working day.

Maternity Healthcare Assistant
NHS - Worksop
August 2022 to May 2023
Some of my main duties included, breast feeding support, practical support with post natal and ante natal care. Removal of catheters , cannulas and other personal care tasks completing vital signs and recording. Providing important emotional support for the women and partners and offering advice and support with discharges. Taking instruction from midwives regarding care and being attentive , punctual, observant and proactive in my approach. I gained a breast feeding support recognised assessment certificate. Speaking with MDT in order to provide the best outcome for patients in our care, liaising with midwives, doctors and other health professionals during handover and throughout the day. Gaining knowledge in obtaining and correctly sending blood and urine samples to the correct place. Making sure areas of work were always clean and tidy and posed no risk to patients or staff. I also offered post natal support to women with their new baby, if requested for example helping to change or clothe and providing any advice and answering any questions regarding caring for their new born at home.

Care Assistant (Bank)
2021 to September 2021
I helped with the care of elderly service users, this involved moving and handling, helping with meals, medications, lliaising with family and other health professionals, attending to any clinical needs such as toileting and catheters and providing important emotional support and understanding. I was pleased I achieved this and felt capable of completing the tasks I was given;it was a very valuable experience. During my time working within care I have worked with end of life and also patients with complex needs, the aim is always to provide the best and most efficient care possible, taking into consideration all that person and their families discussed wishes. I am confident with moving and handling, dementia support and personal care / observing safe medication procedures.

Lunchtime Supervisor
Ecclesall Primary School
September 2018 to July 2019
Alongside my work at an After School Club, I also worked as a lunch time supervisor at a primary school. My role here was to assist children into the lunch room including those with additional needs, register on an interactive tablet and monitor children's behavior both inside and out the building. I supported other staff during this time and worked hard to ensure the Lunchtime Period was a positive experience for both children and staff within School. I am grateful to have a great connection with this school as I had already completed a considerable amount of work experience, prior to being employed.

After School Club Play Leader
Hallam Primary School
September 2018 to May 2019
During my time out of study I worked at an After School Club at a primary school where I was a Play Leader with children aged from 4-11. My role was to help engage children in outdoor, indoor activities and learning during the week from 3-6. This involved working with all children including those with learning needs. I was responsible for monitoring and registering attendance and communicating with parents. I also spent time with children in smaller groups, engaging in things including such as craft projects, sports, outdoor play and reading. I also was responsible for planning craft activities each week relevant to the topic focus. The time I spent here was extremely valuable and I was able to build great relationships with staff members and colleagues. I received excellent feedback whilst working at After School Club.

Orthopedic Clinic and Surgery shadowing
The Mount Perth
I spent 2 months in Australia, whilst here I shadowed a hospital clinic for 2 days and observed 3 surgeries. I found this very interesting.

Classroom Assistant (Work Experience)
Ecclesall Primary School
During my time at college I completed 100 hours of placement in various settings. I spent 14 days in a foundation stage classroom at this school which I really enjoyed. I helped with guided reading, craft activities and my role was to support the class teacher. I received excellent feedback from staff / reference from the head teacher for university.

During my time at college I completed 100 hours of placement in various settings. This included a week in a nursery(0-3years), elderly home, hospital and primary school. My parents both work in education, my mum works as a primary school foundation year teacher so I have spent time from a young age coming into her work and helping within the classroom which I always used to enjoy. During my time out of study I worked at an After-School Club at a primary school where I was a play leader with children aged from 4-11. I received great feedback and my role was to help engage children in outdoor and indoor activities and learning during the week from 3-6. I also worked as a lunch time supervisor at a primary school, my role was to help children into the lunchroom including those with additional needs, register and monitor behaviour both inside and out. As previously mentioned, I was offered a place to study primary education at university however I decided I would like more time to gain experience and explore all avenues. I have received excellent references from the headteacher at the school I have worked at during lunch and for placement and have built a great relationship with staff.
