About Me
I am a qualified Level 3 Early Years Practitioner, with hopes of one day becoming a qualified teacher. I have worked in the Early Years sector for the past two years, and have found it incredibly rewarding watching the children in my care grow and develop over that time. I have found how readily children learn, and how much they are able to take in to be of great interest and during my time working in Early Years I have successfully brought in schemes to use sign language in the rooms, which the pre-school children especially enjoyed and took too, even going home and being able to show hard of hearing family members what they had learnt and be understood by them.
Outside of work I am interested in music and have begun teaching myself to play guitar, as well as the basics of drumming. I love discovering new music and bring this into my work, I believe that music and the arts and an incredibly important part of a child’s development which can often be overlooked all too easily.
My Experience
For the past two years I have worked in a nursery setting in Liverpool city centre. During my time in this setting I was a room leader and responsible for the running and maintaining of a room of 16 children and babies from the ages of eighteen months up to two and a half years. My responsibilities as room leader extended to the planning and carrying out of the weeks activities to encourage children’s progress in the various areas of development. As well as the daily running of the room as a whole, I was also responsible for a group of key-children and keeping up to date learning-journeys of their progress while in the setting. Although my role as room leader was in the 18m-30m age bracket, we were combined with the birth-18m room which has given me plenty of experience with young babies and even newborns.
I was also joint room leader of pre-school for some time and have had experience preparing this age group for school, doing basic literacy and numeracy activities and encouraging social development.
