My Summary
About Me
*CURRENTLY ONLY AVAILABLE FOR AD-HOC SUPPORT/BABYSITTING!*
Hello, I’m Katherine, though I go by Kay. I’m originally from a small seaside town on the west coast of Scotland, though I’ve now settled in the Southside of Glasgow, where I’ve lived for the past ten years in a lovely tenement flat with my partner and our two rescue cats.
Earlier in life, I juggled a variety of competing responsibilities—caring, work, and education. While I’m still busy, I reached a point in my late 20s where I wanted to make some progressive changes and focus on meaningful, balanced work.
I consider myself sensitive, responsive to the needs of others, and passionate about equality and inclusivity. I’m a multi-talented multi-tasker who enjoys interior design (especially period interiors), cooking and baking (our kitchen is usually full of something marinating, proving, brewing, or pickling!), and long walks in Queens Park with a good podcast—often about food, psychology, or the history of medicine. I thrive when challenged and love learning new skills or researching new topics; at the moment I’m attempting to master DIY in our flat…strong emphasis on the “attempting” part though!
When it comes to childcare, I see it as part of a wider support network. My goal is not just to care for children, but to support the well-being of the whole family. I’m keen to build a strong bond with parents and carers, just as I do with their wee ones. I’m also happy to help with meal prep, tidying, running errands, laundry—essentially anything that helps keep the household running smoothly.
My Experience
I first stepped into a caring role as a young carer for my mother in my early teens, while also taking on a substitute parenting role for my siblings for over a decade. Although this was a challenging and unconventional way to grow up, it shaped me profoundly. I’m grateful for the life skills it gave me and for the way it nurtured my compassion, patience, and sense of responsibility — qualities I now count among my strongest.
This background, combined with my natural inclination toward caring roles, meant I quickly became the first choice for friends, family, and colleagues who needed childcare. Over the years, I’ve happily fitted babysitting and childcare around various personal and professional commitments.
In my mid 20’s I provided ad-hoc nanny support for my employer as part of my wider role as a Private EA/Special Projects Manager, caring for children aged 2–4 and 4–6. It was an unexpected addition to my role, but one I found incredibly rewarding - building strong relationships with the children was a real joy.
For the last five years, I’ve been offering routine nanny support for a child (from 10 months onwards). We’ve built a wonderful bond, and watching him grow into his own little person has been fantastic. As he transitions into school, my hours in that role have reduced, and I’ve opened my availability for new families.
I am comfortable and experienced caring for babies and children from around 6 months through to secondary age. While I don’t drive, I’m more than happy navigating the city on foot or by public transport - I’m a big fan of nap walks, rain or shine!
I value consistency and understand how important a cohesive approach to care is for children. If your family follows a particular parenting philosophy or style, I’m always open to learning more. I’m keen to read any books, articles, or resources that reflect your ethos so we can stay in sync in the way your child is supported.
Alongside childcare, I also have tutoring experience, mainly at secondary level in English, Social Sciences, and Business Administration, and occasionally at undergraduate level. Coming from a family of enthusiastic teachers, I once assumed I’d follow that path myself. While traditional classroom teaching isn’t quite the right fit for me, tutoring has allowed me to support learning in a more flexible and personalised way, and I’m always happy to help with homework or educational activities.
My Qualifications
I hold an MA in History and a postgraduate degree in a related field from the University of Glasgow.
I also bring a range of practical qualifications from my years working as a Healthcare Assistant/Dispenser in community pharmacy. Alongside my healthcare training, I hold an ECDL, TEFL certification, and a bookkeeping qualification. I am insured via Nannyinsure.
I am fully PVG-checked and registered with a childcare service in Glasgow, which allows me to accept childcare vouchers. I can also provide invoices for parents/carers who reclaim childcare expenses through their employer or the DWP.
If there’s any specific training you’d like me to undertake, or if you’d like me to explore particular parenting approaches or child development philosophies, please let me know. I’m always happy to learn more about your family’s ethos, preferences, and needs.
My Availability
Although I’m available on a part-time basis, my current commitments are fairly flexible. I’m more than happy to chat with parents/carers about their individual needs, and I can usually offer a good degree of flexibility to support different schedules, routines, and patterns of care.
I’m also open to ad-hoc work or secondary nanny roles for families who would benefit from a broader pool of childcare support.
I typically provide care within the family home, though I’m happy to offer care in my own home once a bond and mutual trust have been established.
