About Me

Qualified Primary Teacher & Experienced Tutor in Maidstone

I’m Alison. I am a fully qualified primary school teacher and experienced tutor based in Maidstone, with a real passion for helping children grow in both confidence and ability.

I have over 8 years of classroom teaching experience, working with children from Reception through to Year 6 across all areas of the Primary National Curriculum. I have supported pupils with the Phonics Screening Check, Year 2 and Year 6 SATs, and Multiplication Tables Check, as well as helping children to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed at school.

Alongside my teaching career, I have over 4 years of tutoring experience, working with children of different ages, abilities and learning styles. I have particular experience in 11+ preparation and have helped many children prepare successfully for and pass the 11+ examination.

I am also currently studying to become a Speech and Language Therapist, which is providing me with an even deeper understanding of children’s communication, language, literacy and learning. This complements my experience as a teacher and tutor and helps me to think carefully about how each child learns best. It has strengthened my ability to break learning down into manageable steps, adapt the way I explain concepts, develop vocabulary and comprehension, support children who lack confidence, and recognise when a child may benefit from a different approach.

I believe that children learn best when they feel comfortable, understood and successful. My tutoring is therefore tailored to each individual child, taking into account their current abilities, areas for development, interests and learning style.
Whether your child needs support to catch up, consolidate their learning, stretch and challenge themselves, or prepare for the 11+, I aim to make every lesson purposeful, engaging and enjoyable. I want children to leave sessions not only knowing more, but also feeling more confident in their own ability.

As a parent myself, I understand how important it is to find a tutor who is not only experienced and knowledgeable, but also approachable, encouraging and genuinely invested in your child. I work closely with parents and carers, keeping them informed about progress and areas that can be reinforced at home.

I’m passionate about helping children reach their potential and take great pride in seeing their confidence grow alongside their academic progress.

Please feel free to get in touch to discuss your child’s individual needs or to find out more about how I could support them.

My Experience

I am a fully qualified primary school teacher and experienced tutor, with a strong background in supporting children from Reception through to Year 6. I have worked with children of a wide range of ages, abilities and learning needs, including children with special educational needs, helping them to build their skills, confidence and independence across the Primary National Curriculum.

I have supported pupils in preparing for and achieving success in the 11+ examination, Phonics Screening Check, Year 2 and Year 6 SATs, and Multiplication Tables Check. I pride myself on tailoring my teaching to each individual child, identifying areas for development and finding engaging, accessible ways to help them overcome challenges and make meaningful progress.

My experience as a Teaching Assistant, one-to-one tutor, qualified teacher and Childminder has given me a wealth of practical experience working closely with children and families. These roles have helped me develop a patient, nurturing and encouraging approach, while also giving me a strong understanding of the different ways children learn and the importance of building positive relationships.

Alongside my teaching and tutoring, I am currently studying to become a Speech and Language Therapist. This is further developing my knowledge of children’s communication, language, literacy and learning, and is enhancing the way I support pupils in areas such as vocabulary, comprehension, following instructions, expressing themselves and developing confidence in communication. This additional knowledge complements my teaching experience and enables me to take an even more individualised approach to supporting each child.

As a parent myself, I understand the expectations placed on children at school and the challenges that can sometimes come with learning. My aim is not simply to help children achieve academically, but to help them develop the confidence, resilience and skills they need to become successful, independent learners.

Above all, I want children to feel encouraged, capable and proud of their progress. I believe learning should be enjoyable, and I strive to create a supportive environment where every child feels able to succeed.
