About Me

Hi there, my name is Lorna and I’m 28 with a passion for looking after little ones. I’m looking for something full time, and live in - so I’m happy to relocate!

I am a happy, fun-loving person who likes to stay positive. I am friendly, and really relaxed, as well as being resiliant and adaptable. I find it easy to get along with anyone and everyone.

When working with children, I'd like to think of myself as gentle and patient. If a child is crying, or shouting, or even being aggressive, I try to think of why this could be before acting. For example, are they tired? Are they hungry? Have they had a tough day at nursery/school? If so, then I will try to correct this, with food, down time, or just a well needed cuddle and move forward. If there is no reasonable cause to the behaviour, I believe it is good to be fairly firm and just try and push through.

I look forward to hearing from you!

My Experience

I had been working with my first family since September 2015, and I worked alongside an 8-year-old and a 11-year-old, with very supportive parents.

After finishing my Early Childhood degree at the end of August 2017, I had moved to Switzerland to work with a new family. I worked with a four-year-old and a two-year-old. Unfortunately, the four-year-old has speech delay and the family needed someone who has more experience in this area. I returned to the UK in January 2018.

More recently, I have been working with a family in Sevenoaks as a live-in nanny (but moved out October 2020). I started working with them at the at the end of February 2018, when the children were only 2 and 4 years old. Sadly my position is coming to an end, as the children are 5 and 7 and at school full time. Working with this family has taught me so many new things, such as successful potty training, giving up dummies, and working around tantrums. As well as developmental aspects, such as phonics (and learning to read) and fine motor skills. I also stayed with the family through out lockdown of March 2020, and homeschooled both children for three months (school years: reception and year 2).
I actually took a year out from this family, and looked after a 2 year old for just under two years, she only spoke French at the time, so I took the time to teach her English alongside her French. I travelled a lot to france with this family, and helped out with looking after extended family members during these periods.

In the last year, I’ve returned back to the family I was with during lockdown, as they have had a baby! I’ve been with them since the baby was 7 months adjusted, and he’s now caught up and a super healthy and thriving 18 month old. The eldest two are now 7 and 10, and are mostly at school.

My Qualifications

I hold a 2:2 degree in Early Childhood Studies from the University of Roehampton, Paediatric First Aid certificate (Updated August 2020), and have been DBS checked (2021) - I’m happy to provide this if/when requested.
