WorkMum's Reviews

Parent

Below are the reviews that WorkMum has written.

We hired her as a part-time nanny through an agency, and she asked us to wait 3 weeks before she started. I used annual leave to bridge this gap, then after 3 days of working she told us she had taken another job that suited her better. She gave no indication there was any issue in those 3 days. We had given our nursery notice and paid for her payroll service, and she wasn’t even apologetic.

We were crystal-clear in our job description and explicitly reviewed this with her – if it didn’t suit her, she should never have accepted. We are not a faceless corporation but a family, and she didn’t have the slightest remorse for wasting my time, leave and money.

Hi WorkMum,
I am so sorry you felt this way towards my early departure, I can assure you that my leaving was as professional as it could have been, giving you 5 weeks notice and an opportunity for me to work until you managed to find another suitable Nanny for your child, I remained respectful even when I felt most uncomfortable talking to your husband on the phone about how I have upset you both, made you pay for payroll and made you take holiday to suit me, which i was not aware of. Unfortunately not all jobs suit everyone and I found this job did not suit me, therefore I done what was best for the both of us and gave my notice. A probation period is used for both the nanny and the parents and used to be able to leave comfortably and before any attachments are made for many of reasons and I’m sure if you weren’t comfortable after three days then you would have gave me my notice too. Having three years nanny experience means that I am experienced enough to know about what I want to achieve from a job and unfortunately I did not feel like I would be able to offer my full potential in a job I see more as mothers help than a nanny. I’m upset and disappointed that I wasn’t contacted directly about the issues you found with my departure, because I could have then told you my issues that I wasn’t able to say on the phone due to the call being cut short by your husband. As you would know having had access to these my outstanding references from my jobs the past 7 years I have never been described as unreliable, unprofessional or someone with no integrity. I hope this message assures you that my 1 star rating is clearly not deserved as I never purposely left to hurt or offend your family. I hope you and your family are able to find a nanny that suits both yours and their needs and again I apologise sincerely that my role as your Nanny did not work, take care.

We hired Vicki after another nanny asked us to wait 3 weeks for her to start, then told us after 3 days that she had taken another job. We emphasised multiple times that we did not want a repeat of this experience, which we found traumatic not only due to our wasted time, costs, and annual leave used, but also the insincerity/purposely misleading demeanour. We asked that she carefully consider and only accept the job if she was going to follow through with it. She repeatedly reassured us that she was reliable and very eager to take the job. She told us her reasons for leaving the nursery setting were because she wanted to get back to actually caring for children rather than administrative tasks including excessive paperwork, and because her commute was too long. Two weeks after she finalised her contract with us (and before she was due to begin), she rang to tell us she had taken a job as a manager at a nursery in London. Given that we live walking distance from her, it seems that neither of the reasons she gave were true. Presumably she won't be looking for nannying positions again, but I would certainly be wary of her motivations and commitment, and would caution against believing her words or even a signed contract.
