About Me

My name is Eden, I live in a small town with my family! I consider myself to be a hardworking, trustworthy, reliable and outgoing individual in which I am keen to build my own career. I hold a full UK driving licence and own my own car. I have a valid DBS check in place for my current job. I have a passion for childcare which has come from growing up in an environment caring for siblings, childminding and baby sitting. I feel children’s personal growth is extremely rewarding. I take a lot of pride in ensuring they achieve their goals. I am a very patient individual and will devote all my energy and time into others. Helping them succeed to achieve the best they can for themselves. I have worked in various different aspects of childcare since school and have enjoyed every minute of it. I would love to continue developing my knowledge as far as I possibly can.

My Experience

January 2020 - Present: Meadowgate Academy Special Needs School - Teaching Assistant
- My current employment is working at a Specialist Education Academy as a Teaching Assistant. The academy caters for children aged 2-19 years old with conditions ranging from Profound and Multiple Difficulties to Moderate Learning Difficulties, including Autism, ADHD, medical needs and challenging behaviour.
- I have worked across a wide range of age groups from Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage 3 and across a wide range of children with diverse needs. I have learnt to adapt and my working and caring needs dependant on the needs of the individual child. I am responsible for supporting children with specialist interventions for communication and social skills such as PECS, Makaton, Intensive Interaction and Play Together. I have also supported children with SALT, Physiotherapy and OT programmes. This also involves liaising and communicating with these professionals.
- My role as a TA is very diverse. I support in the planning, teaching, delivery and assessment to enable them to access education, using individual learning styles, such as structured TEACCHing, semi-formal and pre formal pathways. The role involves good time keeping, punctuality, commitment, organisation high expectations and consistency which are all strengths I have. Many of the children have personal care and self-help needs. I have put strategies, programmes and am confident in meeting these needs effectively and with dignity. Children also take part in extracurricular activities which I have supported such as swimming and outdoor trips. Some of the pupils I have worked with have high and complex medical needs, I am trained and confident in responding and ensuring they have their medication as and when required.
- I am passionate about building strong relationships with children and parents to ensure they trust and are happy in their environment, which is vital to their well-being. I am able to talk and support parents with concerns and worries and find ways to support them and their child.
- I feel it is important to ensure I am fully involved, creative and fun to help bring the children’s’ personality out which I am passionate to do. I feel children progress most when they feel happy, safe and having lots of fun, which is what I feel I do best.
May 2021 - 2023: 1:1 Support Worker/Personal Assistant - Disability Assessment Team
- I started the job through Meadowgate Academy, this is currently my second job where I go to the families home and support them with their two special needs boys outside of school hours including weekends; but this is dependant on when the family needs my support.
- My role includes cleaning, cooking, washing/bathing the boys, playing with them and supporting the family. We go for days out where I act as an extra pair of hands for the parents if needed, and will stay at the house and babysit the boys if the parents want/need to go out. I take the boys to the park and for walks and when in the house we play development games, watch movies and help to support them in their development. I also help the family to make decisions involving the boys and help to implement regimes which could be regarding their behaviours or any routine changes that need to be made in order to support them in their growth and development; which can be challenging at times but always rewarding.
September 2019 - December 2019 : Cleaner at North Cambs Hospital
- I was a cleaner in our local hospital for a few months this was a stepping stone until I achieved my ultimate goal of getting a job within a special needs school; which was what I was working towards since completing my education.
July 2019 - September 2019 : Nursery Assistant at Krazy Dayz Nursery
- I worked this position over the summer holidays. It involved working in the baby room to the after school club with children as old as 13.
September 2018 - May 2019 : Work Experience and Special Needs 1:1 work
- During my year at college I did work experience at Friday Bridge Primary School and also Jack and Jill’s Nursery.
- I did some additional 1:1 work with a little girl with special needs outside of school where I would help out. This did involve going to Great Ormond Street or any other appointment with the mum as support. I did this as and when the family needed and currently do presently if required. The young girl has a very rare medical condition which needs to be monitored 24/7 along with severe learning difficulties.
2016 - 2018 - Childminding for a 10 year old boy
- Whilst I was at school myself, I used to childmind a 10 year old boy. This would involve me going to their house early mornings before school ensuring he was up, had breakfast, was showered and had his bag packed ready for school; I would take him to the bus stop with me to ensure he got to school. I would then take him home from school and wait at his house until his mother got home from work. I would help him with his homework, cook his tea and get him settled for bed if his mother was to be late and occasionally stay overnight due to his mother being away on business trips.
