About Me
Hi, I’m Katie. I’m a caring, considerate and patient tutor and qualified and experienced ex primary teacher. I’m passionate about supporting children to learn and for them to enjoy learning! I love seeing them achieve their best and have those ‘aha’ moments when things just click and make sense to them, improving their confidence and self-esteem along the way. I'm an enthusiastic and motivating teacher/tutor and aim to make sessions fun and engaging. I really enjoy spending time with friends' children and my young nephews (4 and 6). I offer at-home private tutoring and some ad hoc babysitting.
My Experience
I've always loved caring for and working with children in various capacities, from babysitting/nannying and assisting in a kindergarten during school/uni years, to teaching in a primary school for several years, and now tutoring and volunteering.
My PGCE qualifies me to teach any primary year group, but I find it particularly enjoyable and satisfying helping younger children; I taught Reception and Year 1 in a school in Surrey and also have experience in nursery settings and Year 2. I've had some experience teaching children with SEN. Currently I am tutoring some children between the ages of 4 and 6, as well as volunteering with a charity supporting children in Years 1 and 2 who are struggling with their reading, having previously supported children in Years 2 and 3.
Playing and exploration is key to learning and I don’t personally believe in overly pushing really young children academically, but am also aware that some have a desire at an early age to know more and want to, for example, learn to read or learn simple numeracy skills. Teaching them the basics (such as phonics, letters, reading cues, comprehension, number bonds etc) correctly from the start helps improve their knowledge in a way that also complements their school or nursery education. And it can be done in ways that are fun too!
When looking after children I enjoy engaging them in games, conversations, creative activities, nature walks, stories etc which are fun at the same time as aiding learning. I've helped friends with ideas to support their children and their own phonics skills too! I love being able to provide invaluable learning support or care to help children and parents.

My Availability
For tutoring, I currently have some availability on weekday afternoons.
For ad-hoc evening babysitting - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday evenings are possible, depending on the week.

My Fees
- Babysitting from £13.00 per hour
- Tutoring from £50.00 per hour
For private tutoring usually £70/hr but best to discuss with me as it depends on individual requirements, length of the session, my travel time/costs etc so can range from £50-80/session.
For babysitting, generally £15/hr daytime and £13/hr evenings (increased rate if required after midnight and if more than 2 children).
