About Me

I am half Irish and English with over 10 years of primary teaching experience and private tutoring experience. I have worked in public and private schools in central London and in Dubai, UAE and follow the British Curriculum.

During my career, I have mentored and tutored trainee teachers and teaching assistants, I have led teaching, learning and monitoring initiatives about good practice for teachers when teaching reading, writing, phonics and maths across all year groups. My career has led me to teaching every year group from Reception to Year 6 and I have run yearly early reading, writing and maths workshops for parents to enable more parents to feel confident when working with their children at home.

I am very passionate about what I do, I care deeply about each child being given the learning opportunities and tools to thrive and achieve their utmost potential. Every lesson is fun, engaging and I have high expectations and will create exciting challenges in every lesson. I encourage children to work through their fears or insecurities in learning, to challenge themselves and not to be afraid to make mistakes - as it is in the mistakes that we learn and improve.

In my spare time I love to sing in a choir, I go hiking or cycling most weekends and I love to travel the world.

My Experience

I have over 10 years of experience working with children from 3-12 years old via online and in person tutoring or teaching of the British Curriculum.

My private tutoring experience ranges from teaching and tutoring a child in the royal family in Dubai, comprehensively preparing children for their Year 1 Phonics Screening test to teaching and preparing children in Year 2 and Year 6 for their SATS over the past 10 years. I also have tutored children for their 11 plus exams and taught creative writing to gifted and talented Year 6 writers for the past 4 years with excellent results.

My specialisms and true passions within teaching are reading, writing, phonics, positive behaviour management, mental maths and reasoning, mindfulness and drama.

In addition, I have done a lot of proof reading of foreign exchange students’ work during my MA in UCL as they needed guidance on how best to edit and make improvements to their level of English grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure. Such work was done to assist them in submitting higher quality pieces of writing.

My Qualifications

1. MA Applied Linguistics with Speech and Language from the Institute of Education, UCL ranked as the number 1 educational university in the world for the past 5 years.
2. Post graduate degree in Primary Teaching from the University of Greenwich, London with the grade ‘Outstanding practitioner’.
3. BA Irish, Media and Linguistics from the University of Limerick, Ireland with a distinction.

My Fees

  • Tutoring from £50.00 per hour

£50 - £80 fees breakdown:
- 1 free 15 minute online catch up (optional) via Google Meet/Zoom to see if we are the right fit, to discuss the learning goals of your child and if you as a parent and the child feel happy to work with me.

- £50-60 per hour, for EYFS and KS1 children working on passing their compulsory Phonics Screening exam and all the resource preparation. Guaranteed success in teaching your child to read fluently, confidently through the use of a very structured reading programme and using songs, music, drama, games and much more to engage the child.

- £60-70 per hour, for Year 2 SATS children and Year 3/4 children needing support to excel at the new compulsory Times Tables IT Test. Price varies depending on the specific needs of the child and preparation time required. This will involve preparing and teaching lessons that will significantly enhance the child’s ability to articulate their thoughts, transfer those skills to reading and writing, improve spelling and grammar, increase confidence with mental maths and develop firm maths reasoning skills. Exam based questions, games and weekly homework will be provided.

- £70-80 per hour, for Year 6 children, creative writing development and those wanting 11 plus tutoring. Children will be given comprehensive sessions in which all reading comprehension skills, mental maths and maths reasoning skills will be sharpened and improved using exam papers and the strict time frames in which they must complete their end-of-primary examinations. All sessions will be varied, engaging and a quick pace to maintain interest and motivation to learn. For 11 plus tutoring, children will receive comprehensive tuition in improving their non-verbal reasoning skills and interpreting data and patterns to give them confidence when entering their exams.
