About Me
In our home there is myself, my husband, our three year old son and our puppy.
We are looking for someone that aligns with our values (child centred, responsive parenting) and who can build a strong relationship with our son, who is autistic, and really struggles to feel safe around people who are not his mum and dad.
Our son has been attending nursery and we have tried two so far, however he finds the stimulation in the environment so overwhelming to manage that he ends up in long periods of autistic burnout and stops being able to attend. We would like to find someone who could come and build a strong relationship at home, getting to know him over time and alongside his safe adults, where he feels safe and regulated by the environment.
Our son is a happy, bright boy who amazes us every day. He is fascinating to work with (I'm a teacher/SENCO and SEND specialist myself) and great fun to be around. He does find communication challenging, and uses early emergent communication as well as high tech AAC to support him. We have external specialists working with him who we could pay to spend some time with you to provide training - and I can offer extensive support too to offer both in my personal relationship with my son and with my professional expertise.
We would aim to initially introduce you to our son with one of us there too to start with, while he builds a relationship, and then work towards him feeling safe in being left with you. Our son has never been left with anyone other than at nursery (he just finds this too difficult) so we would be looking to build in that feeling of safety, understanding and respect first.
My Requirements
We are looking for a Wednesday in terms of coverage, although to begin with it might be better to do some hours on a different day to build a relationship alongside me.
Some or all of the hours from around 8-3.30pm during term time would be great. If you have a child of your own to drop off at school and pick up arriving later or earlier would work too.
