Hi there! My name is Alana, I’m 20 years old and I would consider myself to be an enthusiastic, high energy person, who is reliable and friendly. I have an educational background that consists mostly of English and Art and Design and went to college for a year on a General Art and Design Course. I would consider myself as the type of person who likes to be made useful, I like to be active and I like my day to be used in a productive way, so have no issues with cleaning up or maintaining a clean space or doing generally helpful things for the household so that the days are used well. I would love to work with children because I think I’m a naturally caring, maternal person, and I know that I would provide them with the highest level of care and that I would make their days fun, active and happy.
My Experience
I’ve volunteered at a mother and baby group when I was 15 while I was doing work experience in the Peebles Library. This involved teaching toddlers nursery rhymes and reading them stories. We also extended this to local nurseries as well, and took hand puppets along to make the experience more alive for them. I volunteered with Enhanced Care and Support, and while this does not involve children, it involves vulnerable parties, such as the elderly and those with learning disabilities. My duties with Enhanced Care and Support included cleaning up, vacuuming, ironing, and just general maintenance jobs that clients were no longer capable of carrying out themselves. Currently, I work as a PA to children’s author Fiona Boyd, who has MS, and is confined to a wheelchair and also requires around the clock supervision. My duties with Fiona include helping her carry out research for her most recent unpublished works, reading her unpublished works and providing my opinion, and generally, keeping her company, helping her live her life as independently as possible and most importantly looking out for her wellbeing while her primary carer is not present. While I have never exclusively worked with children predominantly, I believe that my past experience has allowed me the skills and qualities needed to work with children. I know myself and I know that I’m a hard worker, and that I will strive to meet the highest standards for you and your family, and if there is anything required of me (such as PVG or childminding qualifications) to make you more comfortable I can make it happen while learning on the job.
My Qualifications
I have National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher qualifications. My National 5 qualifications are in Art and Design (B) English (A), Mathematics (B), History (A), Spanish (A), Fashion and Textiles (A) and Philosophy (B). My Higher qualifications exist in English (B) Art and Design (B), Sociology (C), Philosophy (B) and Photography (B). Whereas my Advanced Higher qualifications. I’m a well educated young woman who can use the skills I’ve learned in each of these subjects on the job.
My Availability
I am available any time and am flexible with my hours to work whenever works for you. For example if you were having an emergency and needed me an hour earlier in the morning and it was last minute, I would be happy to accommodate. Ideally thought for me, I would like to work starting at either 7 or 8 in the morning, and finish between 4-6 pm.
