About Me
Hello, my name is Mia Mitchell and I am 18 years old. I grew up in Guildford and have since moved to Ash and then Aldershot. I currently work at squires garden centre, in the cafe and have worked there for the past 2 years. In college, I studied health and social care, and have received an AS level in this subject. As part of my course, I did some work experience in a nursery of children ages 2-4. I absolutely loved it, and I love looking after babies and little ones even more. I have an older sister and a younger brother- there is 7 years between me and my brother, so I have grown up looking after him, since he was born until current. My mum has 6 siblings and my dad has 2, so in total I have 10 younger cousins, who I have helped to babysit, and look after since I was very little, until current. My youngest cousin is 3 months, and my oldest 14, so I have experience with all ages of children! I have always had a passion for looking after children. When I was younger, my mum was a childminder, and so I was always used to a busy house and all the little ones running around. And then she worked in a primary school with children ages 3-5. And so I would go help in the room with her every afternoon after school for the last half an hour. And so I have experience looking after both relatives and not.
My Experience
I did work experience in a nursery in October 2021, for one week. 8:30-6 everyday My main role was to play with the children, and include them in activities making sure they were engaging and helping them learn. Whether this was improving their fine motor skills doing so crafts, or learning number skills through a game! I was to help clean up after them after snack time and ensure the place was clean and tidy and safe for them to continue learning. I made sure they were safe at all times and there was nothing in harms reach.
I have also looked after both cousins and my brother, this has been constant over the past 14 years, gradually increasing my responsibilities as I have gotten older and more capable of fully looking after them. Including feeding, nap times, playing, trips out, nappy changes etc!
From ages 8-12, I would go to my mums reception class every afternoon for half an hour after I had finished school, and help her look after the children and get them ready for the end of the day. This would only include little jobs, of helping them back their book bags, or helping them pop their jumpers and coats on, and clearing up the classroom to get it ready for the next day of learning!
My Qualifications
I have 9 A-C grade GCSEs. This includes a distinction star (equivalent to a 9) in health and social care level 2. And then I have an AS level of a merit in health and social care level 3. I am about to enrol on a course to get a level 3 in early years childcare.
