My Summary
About Me
I am a mother and a London based doula specialising in postnatal care. I am passionate about the significance of postpartum wellness and I’m here to nurture, support and empower mothers and families during the fourth trimester.
I am often described as a very calm, supportive person and a natural listener; and am able to adapt to stressful situations with ease. As a doula, I offer a non-judgmental ear to listen to you – whether you want to debrief your birth, unload your feelings or simply have a chat over a cup of tea. I also offer practical help around the house, feeding support, and can point you towards evidence based information to empower you to make decisions that work for you. I can also help look after older children, cook nourishing meals, pop to the shops for you or watch the baby while you have a nap or a shower. My focus is on nurturing you as you rest, recuperate and settle in with your new baby.
There is a saying in Ayurvedic medicine – Forty Days for Forty Years, which means that what happens to the new mother in the first forty days postpartum will impact her life for the next forty years. I strongly believe this, and was inspired to pursue this vocation during my own experience of postpartum life.
Having given birth to my daughter in March 2020, I found myself in the throes of new motherhood and navigating a rollercoaster of emotions and challenges, without any external support due to the lockdown that had just been imposed. Throughout my pregnancy, I had been incredibly focused on preparing for giving birth, but had done little to no preparation for what would come after. I felt that there was a real lack of information and resources given during pregnancy to prepare for life with a newborn and the emotional and physical challenges that it so often brings. When I found out about the role of a postnatal doula, I felt utterly compelled to follow this path and support others during this unique time.
After completing my birth and postnatal doula course, I am now studying Ayurvedic Postpartum Care. I am very passionate about postpartum nutrition and cooking, and I enjoy experimenting with new recipes in my spare time.
My other passion in life is travel. I thrive on being thrust out of my comfort zone, and since my move to London from Northern Ireland many years ago, I have also lived in Australia and New Zealand, as well travelled solo throughout South East Asia, North America, Europe, India & Sri Lanka. Although London is now my home, I am happiest when I’m by the sea or surrounded by nature.
I have previously worked in the wellness and events industries and have travelled extensively throughout my adult life, I genuinely love meeting new people and embracing new cultures and ways of life. I support families from all walks of life including LGBTQ+ families and those from other minority backgrounds. If you think I could be the right fit for your family, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me; I would love to hear from you!
My Experience
I have been working a postnatal doula since 2020 and have supported over 20 families with their journey into parenthood. Each family I’ve supported have had different needs; for some, the focus is on looking after their newborn baby and providing guidance and support with things like feeding and newborn care; for others it may be planning and preparing nutritious meals and taking care of household duties or taking care of older children. I have ended up staying with the majority of families that I support for at least 6 months and often provide ad hoc babysitting for them as well.
I have experience with twins, and families of all walks of life and different cultures.
My Qualifications
I completed my Doula training course in May 2020 with BirthBliss Academy. I have since completed courses in postnatal planning and first aid.
