About Me
My name is Maddie, I am an experienced private tutor with a background of delivering tuition in schools, alternative provision settings, and with home educated pupils. I am fortunate enough to work within many primary and secondary schools within the West Yorkshire area, as well as with private KS2 pupils both online and in-person. My expertise lies in guiding KS2 (Y3-Y6) pupils through English and Maths, with my own package of lessons that I deliver tailored to suit the needs of the child. AT KS2, I also tutor Geography, History, Science, MFL and Art. In addition, I am trained to tutor GCSE English literature and language, as well as GCSE level French and Spanish. My colleagues and the families I have worked with previously describe me as a 'passionate educator', and someone who is dedicated to their work. I ensure that all of my pupils receive the best possible outcome, and work tirelessly with both parents and pupils to achieve that. Outside of my career as a tutor, I am a graduate of the University of Leeds where I read French and Spanish, and I am currently studying my Masters in Audiovisual Translation.
My Experience
My experience in education began in Paris, France, where as part of my languages degree programme, I took a post in a primary school in France as an English language teaching assistant. I worked with all age groups in the school, from 4-10 years old.
My role within the school was to assist the teachers with their English lessons, which were usually half an hour blocks. I was responsible for the teaching of the lessons, including the resources used, the pre-lesson plans, and the student's progression. This role taught me an incredible amount about TEFL, as well as managing a classroom and organising my own resources. I adored that role, so when I arrived back to the UK, I trained up and began to work with an organisation in West Yorkshire delivering the National Tutoring Program in schools.
This summer (2023), I was offered a role as a live-in tutor for a family in Bordeaux, France. My role included working with a pupil on a 1:1 ratio for ten hours a week, producing and providing grammar resources and work in preparation for a private school entrance exam. I continue to work with this child as an online tutor.
My Qualifications
-11 GCSE'S A*/9-C
-A Levels A in Spanish, A in English Language and B in French
-First Class Honours degree in French and Spanish from the University of Leeds
-Currently studying my Masters degree in Audiovisual Translation at the University of Leeds
-Tutor trained by the Tutor Trust
