My Experience

April 2023 – Present
Year 6 Form Teaching Assistant – Gatehouse School (Independent) – Victoria Park, London
• Being assigned to a single Year 6 class as their Teaching Assistant.
• Building integral and wholesome relationships with the children to aid them in their final term of primary education and preparing them for secondary school.
• Preparing, differentiating, and issuing homework on a regular basis as well as, marking it and giving detailed and constructive feedback for the children to build on.
• Pre-teaching this homework to the less able children, empowering them to complete it independently at home without the support of an adult.
• Creating an inclusive learning environment for children of all levels of need.
• Differentiating lesson plans to cater for children with SEN and thinking carefully about how they can access the lesson to the best of their ability, using a wide range of teaching techniques: kinesthetic, visual aids and practical methods.

September 2022 – March 2023
Cover and Pastoral Care Teaching Assistant – Gatehouse School (Independent) – Victoria Park, London
• Covering classes across the school from Nursery to Year 6 to ensure the higher responsibility Teaching Assistants could fulfill their duties.
• Taking over the role of the Teaching Assistant who was busy at that given time and adapting to their environment promptly and proactively.
• Moving frequently between classrooms within a day and being able to complete a wide range of tasks varying from administration to supporting the children during their lessons.
• Being flexible, open minded and adopting a positive attitude to each new task, with the children’s academic and emotional fulfillment at the forefront.
• Liaising with class teachers to ensure that the tasks set out were completed to a high standard so they could deliver their lessons effectively, and the children were receiving the highest standard of teaching.
• Teaching small focus groups of children and being confident with the vast curriculum and children’s needs from the Early Years to KS2.
• Being assigned to a Year 5 form to support them pastorally with any physical, social, or emotional needs that they may have while simultaneously encouraging their academic achievements.
• Leading PSHE lessons with the support of the Class Teacher and understanding the importance of sensitivity when discussing such topics.
• Providing a safe, nurturing place for children to turn to when challenges of school or home-life arise and working alongside them to reach their most happy and stable selves.

October 2021 – July 2022
Teaching Assistant – St Barnabas’ CE School – Pimlico, London
• Based within the Reception Classroom supporting the Class Teacher and spending recreational time with the other EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) classes, including Nursery.
• Developed integral strong, positive and trustworthy relationships with colleagues and parents/carers of the pupils to aid in ensuring they received not only the best quality of education, but PSED (Physical Social Emotional Development) too.
• Planned, prepared, differentiated, and delivered learning to the whole class as well small focus groups.
• Given the platform to lead the class on a regular basis and experience behaviour management, lesson delivery and the importance of differentiating lesson planning within EYFS.
• Independently taught a daily phonics lesson with the higher twenty percent of the class and monitored their progress using formative assessments while simultaneously liaising with the school phonics lead coordinator.
• Worked on a one-to-one basis with pupils with SEN (Special Educational Needs) – created individual education plans to enable them to integrate into the rest of the class and access the curriculum fairly and to the best of their ability.
• Had the opportunity to be part of and at times lead the Annual Review for a pupil with a EHCP (Educational Health Care Plan) alongside the Parent, Headteacher and Speech and Language Therapist and discussed their next outcomes after successfully achieving their current ones.
• Building nurturing and impactful relationships with the pupils and having a compassionate and pragmatic approach to all their social and emotional needs – making it the priority and forefront of their EYFS journey.
• Ensured that before they were expected to excel academically, they were able to express their emotional needs coherently, providing a sense of belonging and safety.
