About Me

I’m a 29 year old career nanny from Switzerland at UC and married to a wonderful kiwi man, who works for UoE. I’ve looked after children on 4 different continents! I’m fluent in English and French, and capable in Spanish too.
-I helped raise my 6 younger brothers, foster children, and niblings.I’ve been officially caring for awesome kids for over a decade. I worked part-time in high school, as well as throughout my undergrad as a full-time nanny. I’ve taken care of children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers, and loved every one of them!
-I’m patient and love teaching/learning things with kids. In my free time, I love all arts & crafts, from sewing, to painting and sculpting, all the way to building safe structures out of wood. I really enjoy sharing my hobbies with children too, and like encouraging them to develop their creative sides.
-I’m a big fan of the outdoors; spending lots of time out on walks & bike rides. I’m also currently learning to roller skate. The children next door really seem to enjoy seeing me fall flat on my bum often. I also spend time in the park reading books in my hammock.
-My degrees are in science, so I am more than happy & able to help kids with their homework & entertain them with some science experiments.
-I’ve also worked as a cook, though I’m no master chef, I’m very capable of making delicious meals and baked goods for kids with all dietary requirements.
-I believe in positive discipline and guided learning. I always want to make sure my charges are comfortable and safe, but I encourage them to try new things, and expect a certain level of responsibility depending on their ages. I try to focus on redirection and identifying emotions and appropriate responses when they get overwhelmed or upset. I think limited screen time is important, but I am happy to follow the parents' guides on no-limit or no screen time too. I love coming up with art projects, science experiments, and fun activities to do, but also strongly believe in independent play, and that it is important for children's development to play by themselves with others their own age and not rely on an entertainment caregiver.

My Experience

I've previously had various roles in different families, covering solely child to household manager. I am happy to carry out household management duties: groceries, meal prep, laundry, coordinating housework and afterschool activities, and communicated with other parents and childcarers (family members, teachers, etc), or just focus on childcare and related tasks. I read frequently to the babies in my charge, encouraged natural literacy in toddlers and taught older ones to read. I created fun, educational, and age-appropriate activities for children, from safe sensory explorations for infants, to more structured activities designed to help with fine motor skills for toddlers; Like fun arts and crafts projects based on their interests, building basic structures, and teaching responsibility and caution through cooking. I engaged with children and took part in games and activities, but also encouraged solo play and play with other children, so I wasn't an entertainer they relied on, and they developed social skills. I helped older children with school assignments, transport to/from school, appointments, group activities. I left detailed daily reports of children’s activities, behaviours, and sleep/feeding habits of infants. I insisted we went on daily walks, once after school for older children, and a longer walk in the morning with babies in a carrier. Most mornings with the infants I took care of started with a walk to the park or an indoor baby class, where they got to be around other babies, and as they developed strength, crawled around, and explored toys. I made sure to feed appropriate food to the babies, and ensured their milk/liquids intake was high enough. If a sleep routine had not been developed I coordinated with the parents and helped develop one. At a frequency the parents were happy with, we had bath time and water play as they got older. I followed the baby's natural queues, and the loose sleep schedule, to know when to put them down for a nap.

I'm also certified in Water Safety, as well as Infant and Child CPR & First Aid through the Redcross. In addition to my hands-on experience, I've taken (and passed! ? ) courses on newborn care, preventative healthcare for newborn babies, infant language development, child development, managing ADHD, ASD, and other learning disorders in young children, and the Montessori method.
