About Me

I am currently a student on my gap year after finishing my A-Levels and currently hold a place at Oxford Brookes University to study Animal Biology and Conservation in September 2024. I am applying for this position because I feel that I want to use my gap year to make a positive contribution back to my community. I have grown up with two teachers as parents and have enjoyed helping with the many activities that they have been involved in. I am naturally at ease being around children and I find keeping them entertained a positive challenge.
I have experience of being involved with various sports from an early age such as rugby, cricket, football, gymnastics, hockey and swimming and feel confident in leading children in these activities. This experience has also taught me to be a good team player, helping me to know the importance of effective communication within a team and following the rules and regulations that is required.
My time working in the restaurant industry has helped me to develop my patience when dealing with difficult customers and I think I would be able to use this skill when working with children. I often had to take my own initiative when the management team were not available and dealt with customer issues when they arose. I often had to be flexible when coworkers would not be punctual and would have to adjust my job role and shift accordingly.
I have been employed as a babysitter, looking after a 2-year-old boy where I have been resourceful and created fun games for him to play.
My family took a year out to travel and spent some time in Peru visited a children's centre where we helped with lunch and read to them. This was a very rewarding experience and has encouraged me to want to help others.
I have recently started as a supervisor / TA for my local primary school and will undergo safety training very soon.
