Ruby
Nanny in Pewsey
My Summary
About Me
I have worked with children for 20 years, in a variety of roles. I’m also a mum to one son who is now 19 and at university. I home educated him until he was 7 years old, and I was very involved in the home education community, running regular arts and crafts workshops and various other groups. Quite simply, I love kids - spending time with them, teaching them, playing with them, reading to them, being silly, having fun. But I’m also a believer in offering all that within a structure and with clear boundaries, so that children learn important social and interpersonal skills as well.
My Experience
I have two decades of varied experience working with children - as a nanny, learning mentor, tutor and workshop facilitator.
I worked as a nanny for 3 years at the start of my career and then again for a year more recently with a lovely family in London - I would have stayed longer, but circumstances led me to relocate from London to Wiltshire last year. I am now seeking a new role in the local area, where I can use my skills and experience to offer support, fun and learning as part of the natural flow of family life.
The majority of my experience working with children has been in education. As a learning mentor, I supported children one-to-one to overcome social and emotional barriers to learning, so I have experience working with SEN, including ADHD, ASC and dyslexia. From this work, I developed a set of resources for exploring emotions through drawing, which was later published into a successful book called ‘The Feelings Artbook’.
As a tutor, I have extensive and wide-ranging experience, working with children from 18 months all the way up to age 18 (and I have also taught and tutored adults). I can tutor Maths and English, and have many years’ experience with Early Years, with a specialism in tutoring phonics through play-based learning. I am confident with the EYFS and KS1 and KS2 curriculum and I have also taught English as Second Language to young children, Creative Writing and 11+ (including Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning). I often make my own games and resources, using cards and home-made board games.
However, while I am confident in offering tutoring and learning support, I should say I am equally keen to do arts and crafts, baking, den-building, trips to the park or woods, hide and seek, games - or whatever will keep children happy and entertained! I am also happy to do light housework, cooking, grocery shopping etc.
I have a full DBS. I do not currently have a paediatric first aid certificate but I am willing to get one in preparation for a new role, if required.
