About Me

My name is Adrianna. I grew up in Chessington with my mum and my older brother, who is autistic and disabled. I’m part of Kingston’s Young Carers Network, and I’m currently studying Biomedical Science at the University of Kent.

My Experience

My Experience Working in Early Years Care

I have worked full-time at Busy Bees Nursery, completing 40 hours per week caring for children aged 0–3, including babies and children with additional needs. My role involved:
• Supporting meal times (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)
• Helping children settle for naps
• Providing personal care, including regular nappy changes
• Creating safe, engaging play activities
• Supporting early learning through stories, songs, colours, and shape recognition

I loved finding creative ways to make the children feel safe and happy—setting up water play with soft toys, creating a “car park” with tape for toy cars, or using simple games to support early development.

One of my favourite moments was helping a little boy in my group, Arthur, say his first word-like sound. He mimicked a dog one afternoon, and seeing how proud and excited he was reminded me why I love working with children.

My Background as a Young Carer

Alongside nursery work, I am a young carer for my older brother, who is autistic and disabled. I help him with personal hygiene and daily routines, which has strengthened my:
• Patience
• Compassion
• Ability to remain calm under pressure
• Understanding of additional needs

These experiences naturally shape the way I support children—ensuring they feel understood, respected, and cared for.

Volunteering in Tanzania

Child Hope Organization – Kilimanjaro

I spent 4 weeks volunteering with the Child Hope Organization in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania—one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

Through generous donations, I raised £200, which helped provide essentials for 40 children.

I volunteered at Lemiti Childcare Centre, a community-run kindergarten supporting over 55 Maasai children aged 1–4. The centre relies on volunteers to provide early education, daily meals, and a safe environment for learning and play.

What I Did There
• Assisted with English, music, art, and outdoor activities
• Helped lead play-based learning sessions
• Supported daily hygiene routines
• Collaborated with local teachers and volunteers to create structured learning

Skills I Developed
• Cross-cultural communication
• Adaptability and creative problem-solving
• Team collaboration in new environments
• Leadership in early-years settings
• Strengthened emotional intelligence and empathy
