About Me

As an English tutor and mentor specialising in personalised education for students aged 8 to 17, I offer a unique blend of expertise and passion. My educational background, with a degree in education and a focus on supporting individuals with ADHD, equips me to effectively address a wide range of learners' needs. This is complemented by an understanding of psychology, enabling me to provide empathetic, supportive, and tailored learning experiences.

I am also adept at supporting children learning English as an additional language, tailoring my approach to cater to their specific needs. My experience teaching English in Asia has afforded me valuable insights into the challenges these students face, and I employ strategies that facilitate their full engagement and rapid progress in mastering the language.

My commitment to professional development ensures I stay abreast of the latest educational strategies and technological advancements. This dedication to innovation allows me to incorporate digital tools and interactive platforms, making learning more accessible and engaging.

I see myself as more than a tutor; I am a mentor, motivator, and advocate, encouraging students to pursue their interests while fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. My teaching philosophy extends beyond mere academic achievement; it's about building resilience, confidence, and a positive mindset.

At the core of my approach are values such as curiosity, trust, empathy, resilience, and collaboration. These principles encourage students to explore, persevere, and cooperate, creating a supportive learning environment where they can thrive.

Collaboration with parents and caregivers is vital, enabling me to effectively support students' holistic development. I believe in strong partnerships with families, providing regular progress updates, and guiding learning reinforcement outside the classroom.

My professional ethos centres on the belief that education should be transformative, nurturing academic success and personal growth. By fostering a lifelong love of learning and respecting each student's uniqueness, I aim to empower them to reach their fullest potential. This commitment to a compassionate, engaging, and enriching educational experience ensures every student feels valued, understood, and poised to succeed.

My Experience

With over 20 years of teaching experience in both mainstream and SEND provision, my career has encompassed a broad spectrum of educational environments, including a few years teaching English as an additional language in Asia. This international experience has sharpened my ability to engage with a diverse range of students, adapting to various learning needs and cultural backgrounds. My expertise spans creating inclusive, engaging curriculums that cater to individual student requirements, fostering a supportive and dynamic learning environment.

It is crucial to highlight that my pricing reflects a personalised needs assessment and gap analysis of each student, approached through a formative assessment process designed to be non-intimidating. This approach enables me to devise a bespoke learning journey, intricately woven around each student's personal interests and preferences, thereby boosting motivation and forging a stronger bond with the material. I integrate a variety of innovative teaching methods and technologies to make learning not just effective, but also enjoyable and engaging.

Holding a full DBS certification and with references available upon request, my comprehensive and adaptable approach underlines my commitment to delivering a high-quality, personalised educational experience that meets the unique needs of every student, ensuring they reach their full potential in a nurturing and stimulating environment.

My Qualifications

I hold a First Class BA (Hons) in Education Studies (2006) and have successfully completed the Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP), achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (2007). Currently, I am nearing the completion of an MSc in Psychology (2024). My academic journey has been enriched by an Introduction to ADHD Awareness in 2023 and an NVQ Level 2 in Understanding Counselling Skills, also acquired in 2023. Furthermore, my foundational studies in Childhood Clinical Psychology have provided me with a deep understanding of child development and mental health, enhancing my capability to support students with diverse educational and emotional needs.
