My Summary
About Me
Hi there! I'm Maggie and I have years of experience working with children and young people in a variety of contexts, and also supporting individuals with additional support needs. I'm available for childcare services within the Edinburgh area.
My Experience
I have a variety of experience caring for others, having worked as an:
- Early Years Practitioner with children between 2-5 years old
- Support for Learning Assistant within an ASN class at a primary school
- helping to run summer activities clubs for children.
- Family Contact Centre worker working with a range of ages, helping to facilitate contact between children and their parents
- a Support Worker supporting young unaccompanied asylum seekers between the ages of 16-20
- and working as a Support Worker within adult mental health.
I am someone who loves to continue to develop my practice and seek out opportunities for further professional development. Last year I obtained my COSCA Counselling Skills certificate, and also my SVQ3 in Social Services (Children and Young People). I have also completed further training in Paediatric First Aid, Trauma Informed Approaches to Care, Systemic Approaches, Zones of Regulations, Supporting Children to Problem Solve, and Slow Pedagogy. I also completed a year of training with Orkney Islands Early Years Team, doing classroom based learning, looking at areas such as child development, the theory behind our nursery practice, how best to support children's literacy, numeracy, creativity, and such. We looked at art, drama, music, outdoor learning, how to set up children's spaces to create an accessible and stimulating environment and much more.
I understand how to tailor activities and support to different age groups and different support needs, and create experiences that are engaging and enriching for the child while also supporting their development.
I also have a degree in Set and Costume Design from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I have found my creativity to be an asset when working with children and understand very well how to support them with theirs.
I am someone who is reliable, warm and caring and can quickly build trusting relationships with those I support. I am happy to help out with other areas such as meal preparation and housekeeping also.
My Qualifications
COSCA Counselling Skills - Orkney UHI
SVQ3 Social Services (children and young people) - Orkney UHI

My Availability
I'm quite flexible with the hours I could work. I am open to working any time of the day - I'm happy to accommodate you and your families needs. At present I would be looking to take on work that had consistent, longer than 3hr days. I am happy to support at weekends too but I would be looking to have every 2nd weekend off.
