About Me
Hi, I'm Tom Lawton-Davies, an enthusiastic and patient indivual offering babysitting services for SEN children as well as A-level Psychology tutoring. I aim to provide a calm, compassionate and nurturing environment, where the child feels safe and encouraged to be themselves, whilst also producing an enriching challenges to learn, grow and develop.
I have extensive experience working closely with children of all ages and needs. I have supported multiple SEN children with varying complex needs as an LSA at a SEN school, where I have also taught year 12 Psychology classes and Year 7 PSHE and History. Furthermore, I have coached cricket to children aged 6-13, assisted with the running of children's parties and tutored a student in A-level economics who went on to achieve an A*. Alongside other experiences I have found a dedication to supporting children to achieve their potential and flourish as individuals.
I have a well-rounded approach to education and believe that all aspects of life (academia, sport, arts, technology, nature etc.) should be experienced by children. I have enjoyed these different aspects through: representing my country at sport, completing 2 years in the Combined Cadet Force at school, tutoring, working in the service industry, volunteering in a community action programme and providing online therapy.
I have a strong understanding of achieveing academically with neurodiversity. I achieved a 2:1 (hons) in Psychology at the University of Exeter, as well as 2 A* (Psychology and Economics and A (Philosophy and Ethics) at A level. As someone with a diangosis of ADHD myself, I can bring personal insight and an adaptable approach to teaching and learning to suit the needs of the individual. I enjoy finding creative strategies to help children learn.
My Experience
- Learning Support Assistant at a SEN school, working 1:1 with children with high-level complex needs (ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Global Development Delay, Anxiety, PDA, ODD). I have also taught year 7 PSHE and history, as well as A level Psychology classes.
- Clinical Psychology Intern at OVERCOME: trained in therapy techniques and provided therapy to clients.
- Youth cricket coach (ages 6-13).
- Tutored A-level Economics student who achieved an A*.
- Lifeguard at Wellington Health and Fitness Club where I assisted with running children's parties. Also first-aid trained at the time.
- Community Action Programme at Reading Blue Coat School, visiting a primary school and an elderly care home.
- 2:1 (hons) in Psychology at the University of Exeter, going on to do a masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of Bath.
