About Me

(I have recently uploaded my DBS, Passport and all certificates including Safeguarding - I am waiting for the platform to approve)

Hi there, I am Marcus, I am 31 years old, and have recently completed my Geography (BSc) Degree at Kingston University. Whilst I am working with children, I am also pursuing to become a Geography Teacher. I have worked in a combination of SEN (Special Educational Needs) and mainstream schools; some offering term-time placements including 1-1 roles with specific students who had both learning and behavioural support needs. Please see in My Experience section for further details.

I can also help around with house chores, baby sitting, going to the shops, pet walking / sitting etc.

I have also mentored students in the year below me whilst at Kingston University. I would participate in weekly sessions to help them understand the topic, interpret and support critical analysis and support them with their assignments.

Other passions that I have are travelling; learning, and understanding how other cultures are in the world. I have travelled throughout many countries, lived aboard, and have many life experiences where I have gained a deeper understanding and respect for the world around us. I am empathetic, but most of all, I am down to earth, approachable and have an optimistic outlook on life. I am passionate about teaching and supporting children whether that is academically or supporting them with regulating their behaviours and emotions. Therefore my personality combined with enthusiasm, motivation, and strong work ethic makes me a great and reliable person to help and support children from all backgrounds.

My Experience

As mentioned I have worked in a variety and combination of mainstream and SEN schools as a Teaching Assistant (TA) and Learning Support Assistant (LSA).

Being involved in 1:1 placements meant on occasions meeting the parents and other educational bodies and agencies to discuss the progress and perhaps the behaviour of the child. This definitely fostered a greater relationship overall with the child by exchanging information and advice with the parents and at times, this would be beneficial to help a child regulate their emotions through school.

I was given responsibilities as well as roles which I also volunteered for, to gain additional skills. This included proof-reading reports that teachers had done on their students; ensuring the reports were clear, concise and ensuring the reports were fair and accurate for parents, carers and or, for their guardians to be understand. I also supported other departments with other tasks where possible and also did duty on lunch breaks and sometimes covered classes until the teacher or supply teacher arrived. Furthermore, I gained skills such as supporting teachers to maintain a disciplined, but positive learning atmosphere and environment. I would also encourage students to become independent (where possible) with their learning by dynamically communicating by asking questions from a different angle or applying a different context; allowing the student to achieve a greater understanding of the topic being taught.

Pimlico Academy:
My main role was working with a year 1 boy that had PDA. Supported many other children that had a range of special and behavioural needs. I also undertook interventions to support students who struggled academically, particularly with language and speech, and this would on occasions involve a speech and language therapist. I also got the chance to be TA in a general mainstream classroom setting and cover for teachers in certain circumstances.

St Mary RC Primary School / After School Club (cook):
Mainly assisting a boy in reception where they needed support with their behavioural management and social skills. Also a general TA supporting the reception teacher.

After school, I would work in the After School Club, where I had to cook for up to 20 / 30 children. I was also responsible for ordering.

Paddock Primary and Secondary (SEN School):
Worked as TA in various classes with ages ranging from 3 - 18. Had a fantastic experience supporting students in Post 16 that were transitioning to college next term and doing community work where we assisted planting trees.

Turney School (SEN School):
Worked as a TA in various classes e.g early years, years 6, year 8, post 16 and helped the resources team by supporting teachers with their requirements to teach their lessons.

Also had the opportunity to be a part of the covid team as we had testing department set up. During this period I had the opportunity to provide feedback on End of Term reports for pupils in many classes of the school to support teachers so parents / carers had a full sound understanding.

Haymerle Primary School (SEN school):
TA in a year 3 class of up to 8 pupils. All pupils had learning difficulties, autism and behavioural challenges.
