My Experience

I regularly babysit for a family of 4 children with the age range of 6 months to 6 years. This role requires me to work both individually to meet the needs of the children but also work harmoniously with them in order to gain a successful, trusting relationship with them and ensure their safety. Tasks that this jobs entails include preparation of meals, helping with school work, assisting with washing and dressing, playing and reading with them and preparing the child for bed time. Babysitting has developed the confidence to work independently and demonstrates my caring nature, my ability to work under pressure, my reliability and my organisational skills. I also have just completed a year working as an SEN classroom assistant working with children aged 12–18. I worked alongside various children with a range of special educational needs including both medical needs and autism, assisting them both academically and emotionally. I learned a range of skills including excellent communication skills, behaviour management skills, organisational skills and the importance of both team and independent work. Communication was vital for this role and understanding the difference when communicating to children especially those with special educational needs, and adults was a key skill equipped. I have undertaken a range of training courses within this role, including child protection and education authority courses. I worked as part of a team of classroom assistants, teachers and senior staff to create a positive and safe learning environment for all children. I absolutely loved this job and found it very rewarding.

My Qualifications

Through working as a classroom assistant I have taken a range of training courses including child protection courses provided by the school. I have an up to date accessNI certificate. I have also taken courses provided by the education authority:
