My Summary

My Experience

Reflecting upon the beginning of my higher educational career, I completed an NPA Social Services, Children and Young People at City of Glasgow College which offered excellent foundational knowledge on working with young children. I then completed my HNC and HND Childhood Practice at City of Glasgow College. These qualifications framed my educational journey, introducing me to curricular frameworks, policies, and legislation such as Getting It Right for Every Child and UNCRC Children’s Rights. I utilised this learning throughout my first placement experience in a nursery. This involved planning and delivering learning experiences within a range of playroom areas, supported by learning outcomes from the Curriculum for Excellence. Consequently, I developed skills such as conducting activities safely following efficient risk assessments, managing challenging behaviour effectively and communicating with children from a range of diverse backgrounds. Building upon my previous qualifications, I chose to progress on to the BA Childhood Studies course within University of the West of Scotland. During my BA Childhood Studies degree, I have enjoyed collaborating with various childhood professionals throughout a range of modules. I have experienced further placement opportunities within settings including local primary schools. This allowed me to acquire leadership skills, supporting and developing children’s learning across various aspects of the curriculum, alongside transitioning from working with children in early years to primary school children. Building upon my studies, I work as an early year's practitioner within a nursery. Children are at the centre of my work, I ensure all learning is tailored to their needs and interests, including adaptations required to meet additional support needs. I enjoy spending time with friends and family travelling, experiencing different cultures and architecture alongside participating in extra-curricular groups such as Bridging the Gap, supporting children on their transition from primary to secondary school. I am now completing my PGDE Primary course at the University of Glasgow to progress my practice into the classroom.
