About Me
I pride myself on being patient, supportive, and approachable, creating a safe and encouraging learning environment where students feel confident to ask questions and make mistakes. This also manifests itself very positively when babysitting, allowing me to connect with children in a caring and supportive manner. I am often told that I have a very calming presence, allowing those around me to feel comfortable and reassured.
I have a great passion for learning and enjoy sharing this with others, to help them engage more with their own learning and hopefully make a positive difference to their experience of education.
I focus on building trust and tailoring my approach to each individual’s needs as I know that everyone learns differently. My lessons involve both collaborative and independent learning, with a focus on active application and practice as I believe this is most effective for exam learning and developing critical thinking skills - however this is reformed for each individual, depending on what they will find most helpful.
I believe in fostering not only academic improvement but also self-belief, helping students develop both their skills and their confidence and enthusiasm for learning.
My Experience
With a background in tutoring vulnerable students when employed by my school and volunteering through the Duke of Edinburgh scheme during sixth form, I bring a compassionate and adaptable approach to teaching. My experience has equipped me with the ability to connect with students from a variety of backgrounds, including those who may require extra support and understanding, as well those who want to be pushed to achieve the best they can.
I also have experience in care of my younger sister with Autism and learning difficulties, and also in looking after children of my parents’ friends, which equips me well for babysitting roles. Whilst I am able to be firm, I also recognise the importance of being gentle in fostering trust in children and am able to apply psychological techniques from my learning as well as personal experience to make them feel comfortable and happy around me.
My Qualifications
I recently completed A Levels in Biology, Psychology and PE, achieving all A*s, as well as 7 A*s and 2 As at GCSE. Because of this, and my prior experience in tutoring, I am confident in my ability to provide a great depth of knowledge in both content and exam technique. I am resilient and thorough, inspiring confidence in each student and their abilities to succeed. I am familiar with the exam board OCR A for A Level Biology and AQA for Psychology and PE as well as Edexcel for GCSE biology.
My Availability
I am currently employed and working 25 hours a week across 5 days, meaning I have some flexibility in my days, and can consistently work evenings to fit around work and school times.
