My Summary
About Me
I am a dedicated, loving, and caring person who adores working with children. I have a son of my own who is 5-years-old, and I loved every stage of his growth and getting to help navigate him into the world. I love music, and I sing and play guitar. I have hosted song, rhyme, story time sessions on multiple occasions at my mother's bookshop in Bedale. I also am part of a band which do around 4-5 gigs a year and I love being able to bring joy to the audience through my songs. I am passionate about education, with a particular focus on reading and writing. I love to read myself, and have promoted this skill in my son also. I love the outdoors and am particularly passionate about walks, scavenger hunts, and I love water sports, particularly kayaking. I take my son on lots of outdoor adventures as I feel it is a brilliant way for children to learn.
My Experience
From the age of 11, my mother was a foster carer and we took children in for long-term placements from birth-18-years-old. This gave me hands on experience of how to care for children in all age groups. Upon leaving secondary school, I attended sixth form college with the idea to become a Primary school teacher. I completed an AS level in Dance and then left to attend college to become a nursery practitioner. I completed a year of this course, but left to work full-time behind a bar in a local pub. I worked here for many years and gained a lot of skills such as management, team work, dealing with confrontation, and patience. I began a degree in Journalism in 2019 which I passed with a 2:1 in 2023. Upon graduating, I began a PGCE in secondary English where I taught English in a secondary school in Wensleydale. I worked here for around 3 months before I left to work as a cover supervisor at Richmond Secondary School. I taught all subjects from Science, to Art, and even Maths, and PE. I more often taught English lessons, as this is where my passions lie, but I enjoyed being able to teach a wide range of subjects. When there was little cover work, I would teach English to the Year 11s in the alternative provision within the school, and would also help with the management of behaviour, and supporting younger students in the alternative provision. I left this job in May 2025 as I wanted to expand my knowledge within the childcare sector and moved onto my current role as a residential childcare support worker. Within my company, we take care of children from 8-years-old to 16-years-old on a 2:1 basis. The children we care for have complex needs and difficult backgrounds, and many of them have been removed from their families. My job is to work therapeutically with the child, taking them on days out, helping them with their education, and taking care of them daily. I find it is deeply rewarding working with children, and am currently working towards my Level 3 in residential childcare.
My Qualifications
I have an AS level in Dance, GCSEs in Drama, English, Maths, Music, French, Science, and History, and I have a 2:1 degree in Journalism. I have worked with children on and off throughout my life and am currently working towards a Level 3 in residential childcare. I have a first aid certificate, which includes elements of paediatric first aid, and I have completed many online courses such as PREVENT, safeguarding, COSHH, food hygiene, CSE, CCE, and bullying.
My Availability
My son's father and I co-parent so ideally my working hours would be before school-evening on a Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday as my son is with his father, and then from morning-afternoon on a Thursday and Friday. If needed, I can work one weekend day a week, however, there are times when I go away with my family for the weekend and would need the whole weekend free. I am happy to be amenable with these hours and discuss them with the right family.
