About Me

I am a 25 year old female. I finished my BA (hons) degree of Early Childhood Studies at Chichester University in Oct 2013 and moved back to Letchworth.
I have been a Nanny for a year and a half with one family near Hitchin.

I also worked as a childcare assistant with children aged 6 months – 11 years (reference available). I have also worked as a Teaching Assistant with children aged 3 - 6 years.
I have my own car, drivers licence (clean) I am CRB/DBS checked. I do not smoke or drink. I have the Food Hygiene Certificate and have grown up with healthy eating from my mother who is a teacher of Food Technology and Child Development. I have my own car and have been driving for 5 years.

I have so many ideas to use when working with children, to improve on their fine motor and gross motor skills. Having worked in a Childcare setting and in a school I have learnt many exciting games and songs to play with children.
I am fully aware of the EYFS ages and stages and have written learning journals about the children for the parents to look over and keep up to date on how their child is learning and growing which is also a great keep sake to show the child/children when they are older.

Previous Jobs

DT Childcare. May 2012 – June 2013 (Part-time) (roughly 4 days a week)

I would arrive at work before the children so that I could clean and tidy the play area and play room. I would make sure that the toys that are in the play room are appropriate for the children that are attending that day. I also check that there are no small parts from toys on the floor or accessible to the children for health and safety reasons. Before the children arrive I liaised with the settings manager and the other staff to discuss the children attending and any relevant information that has come to their attention from whatever source.

I assist in the receiving and settling of the children, dealing specifically with any separation anxiety. Part of my job is to read to the children and listen to the older children reading to me, offering assistance where necessary. I like to take the children into the garden to give them some fresh air and exercise. For example, I often help the children plant seeds in the garden and we discuss how the seeds will grow into different vegetables, discussing the colours, shapes and sizes of different flowers, fruits and vegetables.

I would make at least three observations per day on each child, writing down what I have seen and heard, making appropriate cross referencing with the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile. This information is later transferred to the child’s Learning Journal which includes information regarding their level within the EYFS.

Every child arrives at the setting with a diary which I complete during the course of the day and it is then sent home for their parents to read. The diary includes information such as, what the child has eaten during the day, the activities the child carried out, as well as ‘Ask me about….’ where the parent/carers are encouraged to ask the child about a particular activity they enjoyed during the day so the parents/carers feel involved in what their child has experienced.

After lunch I would carry out an activity I had pre planned with the children, either in the house or the garden, such as painting, drawing, art and crafts as well as puppet play, counting and spelling.

At the end of the day I assisted in the return of the children to their parents/carers. Following this the staff would meet to bring to each other’s attention any significant matters that have arisen during the day. I then tidy the play room and garden so it is prepared for the next day when the children arrive. I would always take time to reflect on how my activities had been received by the children during the day and make any adjustments to future planned activities.

I also worked at Camp America in a private all boys camp in Texas for 4 months in 2011 which was great experience!!
