Childminder in Salford
My Summary
About Me
We have recently improved our setting facilities. Now we are open 6 days a week.
Shelley's Shorties is a family run childminding and business which is awaiting nursery status. We are located in the M7 area of Salford area. We provide childcare with a difference.
We have a lot of experience of working with children if all ages and abilities.
If you’d like to arrange a visit to see if we can meet your childcare needs you are welcome. We try to create a package of care to meet your families individual needs.
We open from 7am - 6:00pm Monday to Thursday and 7am to 5:30pm on a Friday. Saturday’s we open from 9:00am to 5pm. Later weekday nights Monday to Thursday are available on request.
We have a good understanding of the everyday challenges that families face and Shelley's Shorties will not turn away any child's due to a disability. I have worked with children for well over for nearly 30 years.
We have 3 dedicated play areas. Are setting provides a wide range of toys, educational toys and books to help promote learning for children at all stages of their development. Alongside this we prepare the older daytime children for school.
Our setting has a very large open garden, which is enclosed where babies and children can play safely. It is important to us that all children have a good balance of outdoor time.
The setting follows the EYFS foundation curriculum where we focus on the 7 areas of learning and development through play through a number of different activities such as: arts and crafts, baking, messy play, phonics, stories and nursery rhymes.
Where possible we like to try to attend outdoor activities by going on outings to playgroups, forest schools, farms, libraries, local parks and soft play etc.
The setting provides a wrap around service for the following school's only: St Boniface's RC Primary School, St Sebastian’s, St George’s and Lower Kersal Primary.
During school holidays we provide holiday places for school children and provide action packed days, which include a number of different types of trips to keep children’s entertained.
We continually try to meet the families needs and not the other way round as we appreciate how hard it is to find the right childcare that will work with your individual requirements.
All childcare places are for a minimal of 3 days.
We accept all government funded places and student finance arrangements.
My Experience
I have many years of experience working with children in different settings. I started my working career volunteering for Bristol Mencap working with children with disabilities and from there progressed to a nursery assistant. After taking time out to look after raise my own children I returned to work as a keyworker in a children’s home, working with vulnerable children. I was later promoted to deputy manager and decided to leave to pursue my teaching career.
Whilst studying I was not only a tutor for primary and secondary school children. I also worked for the university in raising the aspirations of young people by helping them to raise their GCSE grades. Alongside this in university breaks I worked for an International Language school as an English teacher and as their Welfare Manager. Once I had finished my studies I worked for a number of nurseries and schools in the Bristol area.
Alongside all of this I have raised four of my own children. Two of which have had their own problems. My 20 year old was diagnosed with Asperger’s and behaviour problems and multiple allergies along with severe Asthma at the age of 3. With my support he has been able to stay in main stream education, has done well at his GCSEs and now attends engineering college in Bristol. I have a good understanding of the everyday challenges that families face and Shelley's Shorties will not turn away any child's due to a disability.
My Qualifications
I am a holder of an upper 2:1 degree in education and P.G.C.E in Primary Education. I also hold certificates in Aquatics (swimming teacher), First Aid, Delivering the EYFS, Expectations of behaviour, Introduction to children diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder, Raising developmental concerns with parents, Safeguarding, Child protection, Supporting children's emotional well-being, Supporting children with speech, language and communication needs, and childminders count. I met Shelley Shorties during a delicated time and I always say that she was an answer to my prayers. When any daycare around could meet my son’s needs, She welcomed him without hesitation and helped me to get all the support he needed, not only whilst he was at her setting but until she was sure he would get a place at school. Shelley, I can only express my deep gratitude for welcoming and caring so well for our children as if they were your own, for giving mothers a voice when needed and fighting for their children rights. To all the Shelley Shorties Staff: thank you for always being so supportive and professional , specially for always putting our kids safety first. I always recommend you to any friend or relatives because your job is not excellent, but also absolutely necessary☺️.

My daughter has been going for the 6+ months and I'm pleased. Shelley and the team are very caring, attentive and organised when it comes to her needs and wants. I've also noticed such a huge change in my daughter educational learning and communication outside the service which I hold much gratitude.
