Nya Shelley
Childminder in Salford
My Summary
About Me
We have recently improved our setting facilities. Now we are open 6 days a week.
Shelley's Shorties is a family run childminding and business which is awaiting nursery status. We are located in the M7 area of Salford area. We provide childcare with a difference.
We have a lot of experience of working with children if all ages and abilities.
If you’d like to arrange a visit to see if we can meet your childcare needs you are welcome. We try to create a package of care to meet your families individual needs.
We open from 7am - 6:00pm Monday to Thursday and 7am to 5:30pm on a Friday. Saturday’s we open from 9:00am to 5pm. Later weekday nights Monday to Thursday are available on request.
We have a good understanding of the everyday challenges that families face and Shelley's Shorties will not turn away any child's due to a disability. I have worked with children for well over for nearly 30 years.
We have 3 dedicated play areas. Are setting provides a wide range of toys, educational toys and books to help promote learning for children at all stages of their development. Alongside this we prepare the older daytime children for school.
Our setting has a very large open garden, which is enclosed where babies and children can play safely. It is important to us that all children have a good balance of outdoor time.
The setting follows the EYFS foundation curriculum where we focus on the 7 areas of learning and development through play through a number of different activities such as: arts and crafts, baking, messy play, phonics, stories and nursery rhymes.
Where possible we like to try to attend outdoor activities by going on outings to playgroups, forest schools, farms, libraries, local parks and soft play etc.
The setting provides a wrap around service for the following school's only: St Boniface's RC Primary School, St Sebastian’s, St George’s and Lower Kersal Primary.
During school holidays we provide holiday places for school children and provide action packed days, which include a number of different types of trips to keep children’s entertained.
We continually try to meet the families needs and not the other way round as we appreciate how hard it is to find the right childcare that will work with your individual requirements.
All childcare places are for a minimal of 3 days.
We accept all government funded places and student finance arrangements.
My Experience
I have many years of experience working with children in different settings. I started my working career volunteering for Bristol Mencap working with children with disabilities and from there progressed to a nursery assistant. After taking time out to look after raise my own children I returned to work as a keyworker in a children’s home, working with vulnerable children. I was later promoted to deputy manager and decided to leave to pursue my teaching career.
Whilst studying I was not only a tutor for primary and secondary school children. I also worked for the university in raising the aspirations of young people by helping them to raise their GCSE grades. Alongside this in university breaks I worked for an International Language school as an English teacher and as their Welfare Manager. Once I had finished my studies I worked for a number of nurseries and schools in the Bristol area.
Alongside all of this I have raised four of my own children. Two of which have had their own problems. My 20 year old was diagnosed with Asperger’s and behaviour problems and multiple allergies along with severe Asthma at the age of 3. With my support he has been able to stay in main stream education, has done well at his GCSEs and now attends engineering college in Bristol. I have a good understanding of the everyday challenges that families face and Shelley's Shorties will not turn away any child's due to a disability.
My Qualifications
I am a holder of an upper 2:1 degree in education and P.G.C.E in Primary Education. My daughter has been going for the 6+ months and I'm pleased. Shelley and the team are very caring, attentive and organised when it comes to her needs and wants. I've also noticed such a huge change in my daughter educational learning and communication outside the service which I hold much gratitude.

Thank you Phillipa we really love her and appreciate your review x
Our son Prince has been with shelley since he was 6 months. He is now 7 years old and still continues to go there after school. He is always so very happy when he attends the setting. I can never fault Shelley and all her staff. Shelley even tries to help me out last minute, as best she could. I am truly greatful to have met shelley. As without her I would not have been able to manage going to work and finding someone to look our son. I now have another baby who is due to join the setting by April. I couldnt be more happy and thrilled. Thank you so much for all your continued support.

Thank you Angela! it is a pleasure to have you as one of my parents and we love the boys.
Two of my children have been to Shelly’s and I couldn’t fault her , my youngest daughter has been going since she was 9 months old and it’s like her second home , she loves it there , the staff are all amazing I couldn’t fault any of them . Everything they do is for the children and they are all so happy. I can completely relax when my daughter is there and not worry . All the children play together there’s loads of toys and things to do and play with kids could never be bored. I wouldn’t trust my children anywhere else but here .

Thank you Ellie, we have loved working for you and love your children!
My little girl started with this childminder in January 2025, she has been here for 9 months now and she has thrived! It was hard for her at first, leaving me as I was all she'd known for 20 months of her life, it was also hard for me going back to work. But the constant messages and updates from Shelley made me confident she was happy and safe and loved by all staff members! She soon got used to being with them and has the best time there with all her friends.. Also, Shelley absolutely cannot do enough for her parents, she has helped me so much with issues that have come up and accommodated to suit me rather than herself. She deserves 5*, she's an angel!

I've known Shelley for 6 years and trusted her with my eldest who is autistic and also now with my two younger children. I am kind of mama bear and anxious about my kid's safety and happiness and after negative experiences in 3 nurseries I cannot praise Shelley's shorties more. All the stuff are professional, caring, patient and kids are well looked after and always having fun and learning. The setting has great backyard play area with lots of outdoor toys which my kids especially love. They also have great inside learning area and cosy home area. I can't honestly reccomend Shelley's shorties enough. Shelley herself is very knowledgeable and has golden heart!

She took my son in mid Dec just before pandemic as nursery let us down completely. David turned out to be autistic and she took care of him as one of her own. I have amazing experience with her. She's been very kind, understanding and very helpful and my child was very happy with her. I couldn't thank her enough for all her help during that difficult time we had and helping me getting a place in school even if she didn't needed to.

My kids cried everyday while we were with her.
To think she is currently harassing me even after paying her for her services.
I have been charged 3times for one service who is really ridiculous and Even charged for T shirts which was never given.
Please stop the harassment,I am not owing you.

As a professional I would like respond to this review and say it I know it has been written out malace.
The review is completely fabricated based on extenuating circumstances. I hold physical proof of the children enjoying themselves at our setting has been sent to the all parent on multiple occasions.
All parents are sent reminders if their invoice is not paid in full and only when this happens. Late fees are attached if parents have outstanding amounts on their bills which are sent from our accoutant and only for this reason anyone ever be getting reminder emails. This is because they are automated and updated everyday a bill still has an outstanding amount on it.
Unfortunately this is not harassment but a way we have to keep track of outstanding amounts. Once bills are fully cleared these reminders stop, this has been explained.
This review has no reflection on us as a setting.
We are very good at ensuring our children are happy and their needs are meet at the setting and this is something we are regularly praised for.
Please look at other reviews and you before making any judgment based on this review.
It will be the only way you can get a true reflection and understand that we must be doing things right.
As childcare providers we are open to this type of review by showing our setting in a true light we hope you any future parent will be able to make an informed decision on us as a setting.
It’s sad for us but especially the children when they leave as we build bonds with the children and truly care about them.
Our children are well educated here and well looked after. We support a lot of children with additional needs and parents wait months for spaces.
Please feel free to ask me anything about our childcare and the services we provide.
Finally, I wish this parent like any other parent all the best.
My son settled from day one. The setting is very family oriented. Shelly will go out of her way to satisfy her clients. I am satisfied with the service provided.
My son actually want us to give shelly a 10star,that just shows how comfortable he is. There is zero tolerance of being unkind.
