Shelley's Shorties is a family run childminding and tutoring service the Salford area that currently provides childcare with a difference.
We have a lot of experience of working with children if all ages and abilities. You can see some of the activities we do on our Facebook page by entering @shelleysshorties into the search bar.
If you’d like to arrange a visit to see if we can meet your childcare needs you are welcome. We will try to design a childcare package to meet your families individual needs.
We open from 6:30am - 8:30pm. Late nights and weekends are available on request.
We have a good understanding of the everyday challenges that families face and Shelley's Shorties will not turn away any child's due to a disability. I have worked with children for well over 23 years.
We have 2 dedicated playrooms and a third room that we use for childminding. We have a wide range of toys, educational toys and books to help promote learning for children at all stages of their development.
We have a very large garden which is enclosed where babies and children can play safely. We like to ensure all children have a good balance of outdoor time.
We follow the EYFS foundation curriculum where we focus on the 7 areas of learning and development through play through a number of different activities such as: arts and crafts, baking, messy play, phonics, stories and nursery rhymes.
We also try to attend outdoor activities as much as possible by going on outings to playgroups, forest schools, farms, libraries, local parks and soft play etc.
We can also provide private tutoring, homework help comes free for children attending before and after school childcare. Weekends and late evenings are available on request.
The current school's that we provide services from are: Buile Hill Visual Arts College, Brentnall Primary School, St Boniface's RC Primary School, Unity Community School and Lower Kersal Community School.
During school holidays we provide action packed days, which include a number of different types of trips to keep children’s entertained.
We continually try to meet the families needs and not the other way round as we appreciate how hard it is to find the right childcare that will work with your individual requirements.
I have well over 23 years of experience working with children in different settings. I started my working career volunteering for Bristol Mencap working with children with disabilities and from there progressed to a nursery assistant. After taking time out to look after raise my own children I returned to work as a keyworker in a children’s home, working with vulnerable children. I was later promoted to deputy manager and decided to leave to pursue my teaching career.
Whilst studying I was not only a tutor for primary and secondary school children. I also worked for the university in raising the aspirations of young people by helping them to raise their GCSE grades. Alongside this in university breaks I worked for an International Language school as an English teacher and as their Welfare Manager. Once I had finished my studies I worked for a number of nurseries and schools in the Bristol area.
Alongside all of this I have raised four of my own children aged, 25, 21, 20 and 18 nearly 19. Two of which have had their own problems. My 20 year old was diagnosed with Asperger’s and behaviour problems and multiple allergies along with severe Asthma at the age of 3. With my support he has been able to stay in main stream education, has done well at his GCSEs and now attends engineering college in Bristol. I have a good understanding of the everyday challenges that families face and Shelley's Shorties will not turn away any child's due to a disability.
I am a holder of an upper 2:1 degree in education and P.G.C.E in Primary Education. I also hold certificates in Aquatics (swimming teacher), First Aid, Delivering the EYFS, Expectations of behaviour, Introduction to children diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder, Raising developmental concerns with parents, Safeguarding, Child protection, Supporting children's emotional well-being, Supporting children with speech, language and communication needs, and childminders count. I currently am learning sign language as I feel this can benefit me and the children I work with.
We have 2,3 and 4 year old free places, before and after-school places, term time only places, school holiday only places, and full and part -time places.

I have been literally stuck and frustrated with issues around childcare and the timeframes of job offers. Nya has been very friendly and courteous, taking time out to chat with me at length on the phone and also coming to visit us and clear up any questions etc. She is also prompt in responding to any correspondence I send to her. We are both looking forward to this journey together with her becoming one of your shorties. My daughter is already comfortable with you.
