About Me

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are well?
My name is Rebecca, I am 21 years old and live in Southsea.
First of all I'll start with telling you a little bit about me!

- In September 2015 I moved to Portsmouth, from Buckinghamshire, to start a new adventure in life, and why not choose the wonderful city of Portsmouth!

- I currently work as the marketing & PR manager for Southsea Cycles on Albert Road.

- I have 11 GCSEs which consists of 5 B's, 5 C's and a D.

- I have a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Forensic Science, in which I achieved an overall grade of MMM (merit merit merit, which is the equivalent of BBB at A-Level standard).

- The love and passion I have for working with and caring for children is overwhelming. Other than animals and cooking, I cant think of anything else that I am this passionate about. To wake up every morning knowing that I am going to be helping little ones grow and nurture through my care and love, is like a ray of sunshine. I strongly believe that children need your 110% attention, in order to ensure they receive the best guidance and education to gaining relevant life skills.

- I love cooking and baking for my family and friends. I have been cooking since my grandma first taught me how to at the age of 6, and still love it 15 years on.

- I love animals; anything from cats to sloths, goats to orangutans. I hope to one day have my own sloth rescue center and possibly other animals too!

My Experience

Although I have no childcare qualifications, I have an extensive range of childcare experience.

My love for childcare started when I was only young myself; at the age of 14 I first started looking after my next door neighbors 1st son - alongside the supervision of my mother - and then their 2nd beautiful baby boy came along so then I had 2 lovely little ones to look after! I regularly babysat for them for 2 years with my mother, until I was 16/17 and able to look after them alone. In the time of babysitting for this family they recommended me to a friend, who then took me on for occasional babysitting for their 3 children.

I also regularly babysat a family friends 3 children, one of which was severely disabled. I worked alongside the mother when caring for the special needs child, in helping with feeding and movement and entertainment of the child. When babysitting the other 2 children I was responsible for looking after them and providing fun but educational activities, providing meals, assisting with getting the children ready for school, helping with homework and school projects and getting the children ready for and into bed.

I then went on to do my secondary school work experience at 2 different nurseries. I had a one week placement at a nursery called Marylands, and followed that with another placement at a nursery called Little Dragons.

I then worked for Elangeni's (my old primary school) after school club called BLAST. Here I was a play-worker that assisted in the care of the children, the leading and organizing of both educational and creatively fun activities - both inside and outside, the preparation of snack, and finally ensuring that the safety and well being of the children was always top priority. In my time of working for BLAST I learnt a lot about the rules, procedures and safety criteria's that need to be met in order to promote safe child care.

Whilst working for BLAST I was asked to provide my childcare services to a family, for a temporary 2 week period. The family had 2 children, one boy and one girl. My duties were to assist the children in getting ready for school/nursery, provide them with meals as set by mother, walk them to and from school/nursery, provide them with safe and fun entertainment within the home and my most important duty was to maintain their happiness, smiles and laughter! After this 2 week placement was over, a few months down the line, the family asked me back for babysitting and childcare help.

Before moving to Portsmouth my final childcare role was a nursery assistant at a nursery called Daybreak Nurseries. Here I learnt a lot about the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stages) and how to monitor and analyse children's progress. Not only was my role to care for all of the children (ages newborn - 5) within the nursery, I was also a key worker to 3 children; my duties were to watch over them in their day to day activities whilst recording and photographing what they do, in order to link their actions to the EYFS. We had to create and record this information in scrap books, in which we provided to parents at parents evening. Within my work I had to provide educational and fun activities for the children both inside and in the garden, whilst making sure these activities helped them progress and further themselves in accordance to the EYFS. We made activities sensory, safe and made sure that children's engagement was high. I assisted with the preparation of meals and snacks, whilst making sure that all dietary needs were met. I assisted in the settling down/rocking/soothing children to sleep, whilst making sure parents specific sleeping patterns for their child was met. When it came round to the time that some children within the nursery were to move up to pre-school, I assisted in taking those children over to the pre-school for the day to get them used to the different environment and people, to minimize the shock of moving up.
