About Me

I am a mother with two teenaged daughters living in Birmingham. I also work as an holistic therapist specialising in stress management and anxiety relief.

My Experience

My teaching experience spans over 30 years in the 3-19 age range which includes work within mainstream settings and those catering for special needs children including those on the autistic spectrum.

I began tutoring in the first year of my teaching career (1985) and have experience of successfully supporting pupils on the entire ability spectrum range from the 11+ to those with learning difficulties.

During my career, I was appointed to several senior positions including two Deputy Headships and a Headship. This includes the appointment of Head of Upper School at a top school in Dulwich, London.

Following my first Deputy Headship, I trained and qualified as an OFSTED Inspector and worked as an Associate Inspector for the London Borough of Wandsworth.

I was appointed as Headteacher of a London primary school in my early 30s in 1997. In May, the following year, I was invited by the then Secretary of State for Education, the Rt Hon David Blunkett (now Lord Blunkett), to join the Government Advisory Committee on Personal, Social and Health Education following pioneering work I undertook which began during my time in Wandsworth as part of the Healthy Schools Award Scheme. I was also asked, by the late Professor Sir Bernard Crick – Emeritus Professor of Politics, Birkbeck College, London to join a specialist working party for the teaching of Citizenship Education the following year.
The outcome of the work from the Advisory Committee and Working Party now forms the basis of much of the Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education that exists in many primary and secondary schools today.

After a few years as Headteacher, I decided to focus on starting a family of my own and nurturing my children. My first daughter was born in 2001 followed by my second in 2003.
My eldest daughter took her GCSE English Language a year early in the summer of 2017 and gained an A (Grade 7). My youngest daughter has Dyslexia and is benefitting greatly from accessing support and enjoying school life.

During 2009, I was diagnosed with a life threatening illness from which I am now fully recovered and during that period, I devised a complete reading scheme called Nurseryphonics for 0-5 year olds. Since my illness, I have trained and work as an holistic therapist alongside teaching.

My love and interest in teaching is boundless and I have an affinity and understanding of pupils of all ages. I am well versed in the primary curriculum and the requirements of the 11+ alongside being able to support pupils who have Special Educational Needs including Dyslexia.

My Qualifications

I qualified with a B.Ed which I gained in 1982 and I am fully CRB checked.
