My Summary
About Me
I completed the final stages of my childcare course at Orpington College in July 2011 where I have gained the necessary skills and work experience to fulfil the job requirements of this post. I have worked in a variety of different placements including working within mainstream schools where I have had the privilege to work with children within nursery, reception and year one classes. I have worked with children with additional needs including those with autism, cerebral palsy and children with minor and major learning difficulties. I was appointed to provide one to one support to an autistic child within my most recent primary school placement and as such have developed both my skills and knowledge in regard to the needs of such children. I am aware of the differing requirements of individual pupils, health and safety policies, within each of my placement areas and the need to ensure that access to curricular activities is available to all students regardless of additional needs. I have also increased my awareness of childhood development, in particular during my family placement where I was required to observe both a new born baby and toddler to determine if they had achieved their developmental milestones in accordance with their ages. I was also responsible for ensuring that the foods that I prepared were both nutritious and age appropriate whilst also catering to both likes and dislikes. Social integration was also incorporated by way of day trips and by ensuring that the children attended activity centres and playgroups. Both physical and learning development was also encouraged during socialisation and also by way of activities that I provided within the family home. I therefore feel that I would be an appropriate candidate for this position as I have the necessary skills, knowledge, experience and ability to cater to the children that I am appointed to care for.
