About Me

I live in the Hooe area of Plymouth with my partner, 2 children (11 and 9), my dog and 2 rabbits. My youngest son attends a specialist provision to support his educational needs.
I have a warm, friendly and outgoing demeanour enabling me to build a rapport with children and adults easily. I love the outdoors particularly pottering in the garden, walking in the woods and swimming in the sea. I am looking for a family which can facilitate some flexibility around the needs of my youngest child. Term time only is a big ask but would be perfect! I have vast experience of working with children and families in varying capacities including as a nanny, as a teaching assistant, specialist nursery nurse and as an exam invigilator.

My Experience

I have greatly enjoyed working in various childcare roles including as a nursery nurse and a live out nanny. I have been able to work both as part of a multi-disciplinary team and independently, developing my skills and knowledge. As a Specialist Nursery Nurse, I worked as part of a team alongside a Clinical Psychologist, Paediatricians and a Speech & Language Therapist. Teamwork has been a key element of all the employment that I have experienced. This is something which I have found to be essential when working with children and families.

I am able to demonstrate the ability to develop positive rapports with parents, ensuring they feel comfortable and valued as well as providing them with group learning opportunities. This has allowed me to build on my understanding of the multiple daily challenges’ parents face, all of which may influence on their parenting capacity. I have also gained a broader knowledge of the issues impacting on the ability of disadvantaged families to access supporting local services.

Within both my professional roles and personal life, I am knowledgeable of services and support available to families within the Plymouth area. I have a particular interest in supporting Military families, and have an insight to the unique challenges they may experience

Through my personal associations within special educational needs services and my previous roles, I have attended various courses and training such as Total Communication, Makaton and behaviour workshops, as well as parenting programmes.

Recently I have developed the role of the SENDCO. As part of this, I have supported keyworkers to complete and review individual education plans, as well as successfully navigating the process of EHC applications. I have utilised my experience of information gathering and liaising with professionals & caregivers to ensure the needs of the individual child are met.

I have held roles on the steering group for Plymouth Parent Carer Voice, helping set the overall direction for this not-for-profit organisation as well as supporting events and training. This has further allowed me to develop my knowledge of, and relationship with, a range of services within Plymouth. I also managed the Plymstock Albion Oaks Inclusive rugby team, bringing a community together and extending support to young people and their families. More recently I undertook the role of PTA chairperson at Goosewell School, enabling me to build on my personal development. I was the main point of contact for the PTA, and am strove to build positive relationships with the school and parents to expand the support network.

I feel my employment history and training reflects my dedication to working with families.
