My Experience

I have two years of experience as a primary school English and writing teacher at Church Street Elementary School in Riverdale, Georgia, USA.

During my first semester of teaching, I led writing courses for Years 1-6, which included approximately 800 students. The aim of the courses was to improve students' writing skills by providing them with an additional 45 minutes of designated writing time per week. For the remainder of my time as a classroom teacher, I focused solely on teaching Year 5 grammar and writing, instructing approximately 100 students per year. Although my ideal age range for tutoring is Years 4-6, I am happy to work with primary students of all ages.

My teaching philosophy emphasises the importance of students finding their purpose for writing and exploring topics that interest them. As writing is interconnected to nearly every aspect of modern life, it is crucial that my students connect writing to an interest in or outside of academics. For example, a student with a passion for music may want to write their own songs on day, which could be a motivating factor for them to develop their writing skills. Alternatively, a student who loves television and movies may not realise that there are writers behind their favourite shows and films. My goal is to help students make these connections and motivate them to pick up a pencil and write.

I also place a significant emphasis on early enjoyment of writing. When children are encouraged to write about topics that genuinely interest them, their writing skills develop more efficiently. To achieve this, I begin my writing lessons by allowing students to write about topics that they personally find interesting. This way, they can establish a positive association with writing, which will enable them to be better prepared for marked assignments.

In addition to writing, I am also proficient in tutoring reading and grammar in both American and British English. I am comfortable working one-to-one or with groups of up to six children.

I am also open to babysitting positions without the expectation of tutoring.
