My Summary
About Me
I’m a trusted and experienced babysitter from Scotland who’s worked with children aged newborn to sixteen for over a decade. This has provided me with a wealth of skills that makes me your ideal babysitter. I’m patient and filled with enthusiasm yet will remain to the household rules. I’m creative, I love to get stuck in and play, while building solid relationships based on trust and safety.
My Experience
I’ve worked extensively with children over the years. As well as being a go-to babysitter, I started assisting dance classes at my local dance school aged 16. In time, I became a certified dance teacher and had my own regular classes.
Meanwhile, I was volunteering at my local gymnastics club where they put me through training to become a qualified gymnastics coach. Some children attended both my gymnastics and dance classes, which opened up more families who trusted me with babysitting over weekends and holidays.
I also used to volunteer as a swimming coach and found my niche in working one to one with SEN children who had little to no experience in the water. Although to my teenage self this was both physically and emotionally demanding, this was incredibly rewarding as I broadened my experience of children who require specific needs and behaviours.
While at university, I worked at a summer camp in Pennsylvania, USA. For two months I lived in a bunk with ten 7 year olds who I acted simultaneously as mum/big sister/mentor/role model. I maintained personalised daily records, supported with personal hygiene, continually created fun activities to fill their days, and definitely cried while sending them home at the end!
I then spent a summer as a live in au pair for a family in Spain, teaching the twin children English while assisting around the house. This was an incredibly special experience to be living with a different culture to my own and be entrusted completely by a family who I struggled at first to communicate with. As my knowledge of my Spanish language grew, so did my bond with the family, and I still return back to visit them every year since.
A third summer was spent working as a hostess at Walt Disney World, where the focus was maintaining the magic!
Additionally, I’ve worked as a maths and physics tutor (GSCE and A-level equivalent in Scotland). I’m a STEM ambassador, so I regularly attend primary and secondary schools to provide STEM workshops, with my particular passion on promoting girls into STEM subjects. I’ve done over 500 hours volunteering with my local Girlguiding UK group, assisting and leading weekly sessions for young girls.
