My Experience

EYFS/Nursery practitioner
Bramble Nursery - Swindon, started august 2022
As a nursery practitioner, I’ve gained experience, knowledge and skills that could further assist me in childcare and many other positions. At Bramble Nursery, I work in different rooms with differing responsibilities depending on the age group.
When working with children aged 3+, I have responsibilities such as supervising 20+ children during playtime with other adults present as well as supervising children during messy play for optimal safety and enjoyment.
- Supervising and teaching in play-based learning activities such as teeth brushing or cupcake making activities.
- I’ve provided for minor injuries and ailments, keeping clear records.
When working with the 0-3 year old’s, there are certain responsibilities and needs that differ such as changing nappies regularly using wipes, creams and nappies provided for consistent care.
- I’ve supervised children’s nap time and helped them to sleep
- Spoon and bottle feeding.
- I’ve assisted children aged 0-8 with personal care needs such as changing, helping them to the toilet, etc.
- Readied children for outdoor play including helping with shoes, coats and wetsuits when needed. I’ve helped to apply sun cream in hot weather and ensured warm, waterproof layers in cold.
- Served and assisted children with feeding time, cutting up and preparing fruit, sandwiches, etc
- Kept nursery areas clean and tidy
- Facilitated engaging and age-appropriate lessons, games and activities.
- Communicated clearly and compassionately, building kind, caring relationships with children and babies.
- Ensured children received high levels of care, support and stayed safe at all times by closely monitoring activities and operations.
Around the nursery, jobs are split between the staff each day, taking on hoovering, wiping down windowsills and surfaces, sweeping and mopping, cleaning the bathrooms etc.
Whilst working at the nursery, I have worked with many children with various disorders and disabilities including ASD, learning and catering to each child’s specific needs and helping them to develop, learn and play in a positive environment with the support they need.

Drama and Theatre studies
I studied drama in school and college which helped me develop my skills working with other people, listening to ideas and what's asked of me and taking initiative to do or create whatever that may be. It also helped to develop more confidence which has helped me with myself and others in a workplace as well as taking more responsibility and being able to develop more critical thinking.
Psychology
Psychology has taught me about and helped me to understand what causes different behaviour, with theories and studies on early childhood development that are important to know for working with children. This has given me a better understanding of what is bad for and negatively effects children as well as how best to support them to become well rounded individuals.
Sociology
In sociology, I learned a lot about the education system and the different impacts it can have on students, as well as the impact I can have depending on my attitude and behaviour. I carry this with me to become more self aware of my interactions, set positive examples and take into account the different factors that could be affecting people. This helps me to be compassionate and understanding in any interaction regardless of the person or their circumstance.
