About Me

Hello, my name is Skye!! I have had a lot of experience with children from a multitude of ages and backgrounds which have provided me with the skills necessary to be successful in childcare. I am a compassionate and hardworking person, committed to making the children in my care enjoy whatever they are doing, have fun, and additionally, excel. Whilst working with children, I have learned a lot and I am eager to bring forward these skills into looking after your child/children.
In my spare time I love to dance, which I have been doing since I was 2 years old and now I have became a fully qualified dance teacher with the IDTA. Furthermore when I’m not working, I love to travel, this year alone I have explored 6 new countries!! I am currently at Newcastle University studying for my BA degree.

My Experience

I was fortunate enough to secure the position of a nanny in 2023, through the agency, Tinies. In this job, I have been solely responsible for the well-being and development of young children between the ages of 0 and 3. While the young children were in my care, I changed nappies, bottle fed, put to sleep, and took on the role of a parent. Throughout my journey in childcare, I have formed bonds with babies, toddlers, and parents, allowing me to gain valuable experience. I am really passionate about this role as I get to witness the children’s growth and development firsthand though the very first years of their lives.
For a short while, I took on a 1 to 1 base responsibility with a young boy who has additional needs. Whilst on a waiting list for a place in a specialist school, he remained in a mainstream school, requiring extra care. Prior to this, I didn’t have too much experience with children who had additional needs, however when my role had ended, I was commended about how well the little boy responded to my care. Through this role I learned so much about the behaviours and reactions of children with certain special educational needs, and how to react and adapt to them, ensuring the child in my care is safe and happy.
In the school holidays, I worked as an assistant lead for the franchise Active Future. This job was to help give children from underprivileged backgrounds a good holiday when they were off school. In this role, I cooked the children's meals, engaged in outdoor games and sporting activities and gave them lots of attention that they perhaps didn't get at home. This job also provided me experience with SEN children as a couple of the children in my care had additional needs. Therefore, this role has given me a broader perspective of children's behaviours and needs which I dont always see working in the dance school.
As of the 17th of October 2021, I became an IDTA qualified teacher at Sylvia Dobson School of Dance. At the school, I assist with three street dance classes, three Rosette ballet and tap classes, a grade 1 and a grade 3 ballet class, and a grade 3 and grade 4 tap class. Additionally, I assist with British Gymnastics class. I work with children ages 4-16 in class sizes of approximately 18. In these, I demonstrate movements and dances, ensuring the students both learn and have fun at the same time. This role improved my patience and confidence.
In between my University lectures and seminars, approximately once a week I take on a shift at a local nursery. I have attended a handful of private nurseries in the North Shields area, working with either babies, 2-3 year olds or preschoolers. In this role, I engage with the children, help set up activities, assist with meal time, whilst working as part of a team with nursery staff in the room. This job has given me a significant understanding of the cognitive and physical development of young children and has helped me understand what an adult is required to do to help raise children safely.
