My Experience

*Play Phonics - I have previously worked for the Learning Stage leading group sessions teaching Phonics and reading to infants and babies! This role involved adopting the character of Sammy Sounds and leading children through activities and games to encourage early sound formation, reading and encouraging fun through learning.
* Captain Starlight (Starlight Children's Foundation Australia) - Following my graduation I quickly commenced employment as a Hospital Clown where my main role was to be a larger than life distraction from the difficulties of hospitalisation for children, young people and their families. Within this role, I met a varied and diverse range of children, and learnt the importance of child led play and activities and allowing children to be autonomous in their learning and experiences. As part of this role I was switched on at all times, and developed close connections with children who were on longer stays. I also assisted in the Hospital School Room in facilitating lessons in English, Maths and Geography.
- Nanny / Housekeeper for 3 boys (8, 5 and 3) - I previously nannied for a family of 2 doctors, where I was often on call for short notice. I regularly worked 3 days a week where my main responsibilites include driving the family car to collect the boys from school and daycare, preparing an afternoon snack and assisting with homework where neccesary, afternoon play or activites and then the typical showers, dinner and bed time routines. I developed great rapport with these boys and have remained close with this family despite my move 3 years ago. Anytime I was back in town or when I did eventually return home - I was quickly called upon for ad hoc babysitting and dates nights. For this family I also assisted with washing, ironing and folding, feeding and letting the animals out and housesitting whilst the family travelled.
- Nanny / Housekeeper 8 month old (F) - My first move to Sydney quickly saw me aquiring a role as a Nanny and Housekeeper for a young family with an 8 month old baby. From my own experiencing in assisting with the care of my siblings, I was able to take responsibility for bottle feeding, nappy changes and bath time and the transition from liquids to solids. We would often go for walks around the local neighborhood as the baby loved nature and birds, or playing developmental and tactile activities, of which I tried to change up for each week! My housekeeping duties for this family were quite similar to my previous roles.
- Nanny / Mothers helper for 5 (B) and 7 (F) year old - whilst I only was in this role for a few months due to an unfortunate loss within the family, I was happy to assist a single mother in caring for her two children on an ad-hoc basis. My responsibilites changed each week and I was happy to assist the Mum in anyway I could - whether it was grocery shopping, entertaining the children, taking them on an adventure for the day to an arcade or park (etc).
