Jemma
Babysitter in London
My Summary
About Me
Hi, I'm Jemma! I’m a qualified Montessori teacher with a degree in English Language and Literature from Oxford University. I’m originally from New York City, and I recently spent a year in Tokyo teaching English. I’m excited to be back working with kids in London. In my free time, I am currently studying arts, including painting and ceramics. I hope to always foster creativity in my time with children. They are my greatest inspiration!
My Experience
I have been working with children since I first started babysitting my younger cousins after school, and discovered my passion for childcare and education. Since then, I have accumulated extensive experience looking after children as young as 8 months, all the way up to teenagers!
While I was living in Tokyo last year, I worked extensively with the childcare agency Carefinder across age groups, gaining many five-star reviews and recommendations on the site.
Parents said in reviews: ‘She is truly an excellent babysitter—kind, gentle, and quick to understand what the baby likes.’
‘Jemma was a really great babysitter. She arrived on time and connected with the children straight away.’
In addition to my years as a part-time babysitter, I was an Au Pair in Australia for a 3 and 6-year-old. During the pandemic, I was responsible for their homeschooling, and teaching the older child how to read.
I also love music, and I have worked at a summer camp with 7 to 10-year-olds learning their first instruments. I hope to sing songs together and share my love of music with children!
My Qualifications
Last year, I trained in Early Years Education at the Maria Montessori Institute of London, studying the authentic pedagogy of the prestigious Association Montessori Internationale with a focus on the pivotal 3 to 6-year-old age group.
My philosophy in childcare is informed both by my Montessori training and personal values, such as showing respect and empathy to the child, following their own interests, and helping them to explore the world with freedom and limits to keep them safe.
I also studied English Language and Literature at Oxford University, and I am particularly passionate about incorporating books and language studies in my work with children. I believe it is important to use enriching vocabulary and engaging storytelling to support children in their most sensitive period for language acquisition.
