About Me

I have always worked with the public whether it be in a shop, bar or using my qualifications as a nursery nurse/nanny/ support worker. I enjoy this work as I have great communication skills. I am honest, reliable and a good timekeeper. I work in a professional manner towards everyone and it has been said the quality of my work is excellent. I have always had to communicate well with other working professionals such as speech and language therapists, doctors, social workers. I also can be very imaginative when it comes to activity planning. I enjoy work and make others around me enjoy it to! I’m good at working in care with adults and children as I’m very bubbly and give out a good feeling to others around me.
My main hobbies are horse riding (I part time exercised race horses), swimming, going to the gym and I enjoy reading and cooking. I take an active role (when I’m home) in the Somervale rounder’s league by umpiring and also planning and organising fundraising events. I enjoy snowboarding when I can and have recently learnt to sail. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends.

My Experience

November 2012 - present - I have been private nannying for the past year and a half. I started off on a part time contract for a family with twins (to cover as their nanny was sick). After this I then worked for several families doing part time hours. In all my roles I planned inside and outside activities with the children. I cooked and carried out some light house work. Also nursery drop offs. I went on maternity leave in June, but have since continued with some of the families taking my little boy with me.

UPDATE August 2016- I have been with the same family for 2 years taking care of their 2 young girls. This position is coming to an end in September.

10/12/2010 - 05/11/2012 working for TUI Travel (Crystal/Sunsail) as a nanny in ski resorts and sailing hotels.
For the past 2 years I have worked abroad doing winter then summer seasons as a Nanny. In the winter seasons I am based in the ski resort Tignes. Here I work with children aged 4 months – 12 years. Taking children to and from ski school and supporting children from 3 years to learn to ski. Planning and implementing the weeks activities. Liaising with parents to ensure their children’s needs are met. Carrying out pre-departure calls to families coming into my care. Activities would take place in the Kids Club rooms and also out an about in resort; doing snow activities.
In the summer I am based in Greece working with children aged 2 months – 17 years. Again I would plan the weeks activities suitable for the age group. As with winter we would run activities in the club and out in the resort. We would do daily on the water activities and support the children to learn to sail. Also in the summer I am effectively the SENCO (although the resort doesn’t have the job title). If any children came into resort needing one-one care I would take this role. When I already was on a one-one and others were also they would come to me for advice and guidance. Here I have looked after children with complex needs such as prada willi syndrome, angel mans syndrome, autism and pallister killian syndrome.

05/11/2007- 30/11/2010 working for Lifeways Community Care as a support worker for adults with varied complex needs. I am still employed by this company on a sessional contract.
Enabling adults with a variety of complex needs and challenging behaviours to live their everyday lives as full as possible. Ordering medication and checking medication reviews are done. Updating care plans. Working with people who are moving into a new home to make sure the transition runs smoothly. Planning activities with them so they are having fun! I have been on many training courses with this job. I have learnt so much about special needs and mental health whilst working here it has really opened my eyes to how others live and different cultures. I have also learnt how to administer different medications and what different medication does. Having done a lot of paperwork in this role I have learnt how to do care plans, activity plans and observations well. We would carry out daily hand overs to make sure all necessary information was given to the next staff. Having accompanied people to a variety of medical appointments I have learnt a lot to do with the medical side of things. Having regular meetings with other health care professionals.

15/10/2006 - 29/10/2007 working for Burrowdown Support Services as a social care enabler for adults with varied complex needs.
In this role I ensured the teenagers and adults were having a normal daily routine, ensuring they done their personal hygiene and ate appropriately; ensuring they were having a balanced diet. Here I worked with people with some complex syndromes such as prada willi syndrome. Whilst I was here I learnt a lot about eating disorders. I would drop people off at different work placements and ensure I would get a detailed handover of their daily activities.

16/06/2004 - 13/10/2006 working for Kickers and Dribblers Day Nursery as a nursery nurse/pre-school leader.
Setting out and packing away the nursery everyday. I took a big part in planning activities for the children. Planning activities around a monthly topic. I worked with ages from 3 months - 12 years. I done collections and drop offs to and from schools. Had to ensure that the children were getting a variety of play and promoting all areas of development; doing paper work to back up what we were doing. Filling out daily records and observation sheets. Serving food to the children and sometimes helping to cook. I also took charge of the children with individual needs in the group.
