My name is Dorothy I am a highly motivated person with over 5 years experience working as a nanny and a nursery assistant. I have worked with all age groups from birth to 16 years including children with nut and egg allergies.
Currently am student studying Early childhood studies, at the same time I am working part time as a nursery assistant and also as an after school nanny looking after 4 year old boy ( this is a temporary position till the end of October but can be terminated earlier from both sides)
Since my career as nanny I have worked for 4 families which I still have a good working relationship with as occasionally am I do ad-hoc babysitting for them. And we also catch up every now and then.
(happy to proxy parent & cover weekends) I would like to commit to a family long-term plus I also bond with children easily. I am confident driver (automatic/manual), I have an round skills such as a baby-care (bottle onto solids, sleep training, feeding and routine issues etc.) and toddler/pre-school milestones such as potty training and learning numbers and colours as well as working with older children and supporting them with school work. With good knowledge of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Used to be OFSTED registered, but currently I am not as the parent didn't require me to be. But happy to if the parent requires me to. I have a First Aid Paediatric Certificate and hold a current DBS.
I myself have one grown up child 19 year old currently at university. I am very flexible to fit around families’ needs and follow their daily routine and rules. I Enjoy healthy cooking and so much like to encourage children to try new healthy foods. I also like to keep fit.
I genuinely love children and caring for them comes very natural to me. I am able to work under pressurised environments and can effectively contribute to the smooth running of a busy household.
I am seeking to work with a family which will allow me to do what I enjoy whilst I broaden my existing skills and experience.
I have vast amount of experience of looking after children which has been gained through both paid and voluntary basis. And also have been a great source of help of family and friends by offering ad-hoc baby sitting services.
In my current role as a nanny I am responsible for picking up a 4 year old from school. Depending on the weather and what he wants to do we can either go bike riding, take a stroll in the park or just sit and read a book and have a picnic. Whilst at home we can either do some puzzles, build lego paint, read, water plants or just watch the good old fireman Sam or Postman Pat.I am also responsible for preparing his dinner and snacks.
Previously I have have done pretty much the same schools, but I would also take children to various after school activities. etc. Help them wash and dress up. Taking them to libraries Play dates.
My Role at Nursery involves welcoming children at the setting and help help them settle down as sometimes the can be a bit emotional. Serving them breakfast, snacks and lunch. Assisting them with toileting. Organise and plan activities, like painting, making puzzles, dressing up etc.
Liaising and assisting the senior practitioner with any activities that need to be done. And making sure that children I look after safe all the time.
I currently I volunteer with two charities as a youth mentor and my local church working as care giver to children aged 1-11 years old and I have been doing this role for the last 9 years once/twice a month including helping out with various youth activities as and when required.
Prior to my embarking on a career as used to work in finance and once the company I was working for went into liquidation. I decided to change career and I haven't regretted at all hence the reason I decided to embark on a degree in childcare.
Since becoming a nanny I have undertaken several childcare courses and this has helped to broaden my knowledge in childcare and also enhance my desire to see that I make difference with every child that I look after.
