About Me
I am a parent of three children all now grown up in their thirties. I have lived in Hebden Bridge for 28 years. I worked as a Countryside ranger up until the birth of my third child when we relocated, and I had some time at home. I then went back to college to complete my PGCE and became a primary school teacher specialising in Early Years. I have worked as a teacher, Senco, Deputy had and more recently Head teacher in a number of diverse primary schools across Calderdale for the last 28 years.
I am now a Forest school practitioner and have been planning and delivering Forest school sessions in schools and for local charities and other organisations for the past 3 years. I myself love being outside in all weathers. I am passionate about providing opportunities for people of all ages and from all communities to be outside, to relax, enjoy the natural world have fun play and connect with themselves and others. I myself find being outside on a regular basis is essential for my own well-being and health. I enjoy reading, dancing, camping, gardening and wild swimming. I dabble in many creative activities including weaving, willow work and textiles but am an expert in non.
My Experience
I am a qualified primary school teacher and have taught children from Nursery to Year 6. I am an Early Years specialist and am passionate about providing younger children with open ended process led learning experiences which enable them to explore the world around them in their own way at their own pace. Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a 1;1 support assistant in the Nursery class at Stubbings supporting children with ASD. In my role as a class teacher, I have had first-hand experience of teaching children with many additional needs. Whilst at Central Street Infant school I worked closely with the KS1 ASD unit which is attached to the school and provides specialist provision for young children ages 4-7 with a diagnosis of ASD, Children in the provision spend a great deal of their time in the mainstream classes at Central street so as a teacher we had access to additional specialist training and gained significant experience in working with and providing positive learning experiences for children with ASD. I have also been the SENCO in schools for the last 15 years and worked with staff and families to support and enable children with a range of additional needs to access education. This involved developing personalised education provision and approaches, working closely with families and other agencies. I currently work as a primary supply teacher and have recently completed a long-term teaching block at Cornholme school. I am also a Forest school leader and work freelance for several local organisations including the Early Years class at Stubbings Infant school providing nature connection experiences for families, children and young people.
