About Me
I am a 50 year old mother of three and worked until recently in a local independent school as an 'unqualified' teaching assistant, then English teacher and Head of English over the last 16 years. Last year, with all three of my children in their twenties, I decided to leave the profession of teaching within a school environment to make some lifestyle changes!
I am working from home in a variety of roles, including freelance proofreading and editing, writing educational resources, childcare, and tutoring. I am also studying for a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification.
Due to my experience in teaching English and managing an English department (Years 3-8), I am well equipped to provide private tutoring sessions for primary and early secondary children. I am experienced in working with young people who find English challenging, and my aim is to make reading, writing and spelling fun, engaging and accessible.
My Experience
My work as a teaching assistant and English teacher has given me a great deal of experience in teaching children from 7 - 13 years old, including children with special educational needs, such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, minor Autistic Spectrum Disorders and other, more general, barriers to learning.
My experience in supporting children with reading, spelling and writing is vast, and I have many tricks up my sleeve to ensure that sessions are tailored to individual needs and learning styles and, above all, fun!
My Qualifications
I have a first class honours degree (Open) from the Open University, one module of which was in Children's Literature. I also have a certificate of higher education in Psychology.
My Availability
I can be fairly flexible with timings Monday to Friday, but please note I prefer to come to you as my home is currently somewhat 'busy' with the comings and goings of a grown-up family and husband working from home! A quiet space is essential, so please be sure you can provide this. I also offer online tuition where this may be preferable.

My Fees
- Babysitting from £12.00 per hour
- Tutoring from £20.00 per hour
Tutoring fees vary depending on the length of the lesson and whether they are in person or online. Please contact me to discuss your needs and I will be happy to provide you a quote. I am also willing to be flexible regarding cost where finances may be an obstacle.
Babysitting fees are also variable depending on requirements. Again, I can be flexible on this.
