About Me
I started my career as a teacher of Art and then Science for secondary school aged students. This included training for Primary aged children and has given me knowledge and experience with teaching children to read and write, including learning through play. As of 1st September I left teaching to follow my passion, pottery, as a small sole trader business which I’d like to pursue 3 days a week. I live with my partner, James, who is training to become an Educational Psychologist, and our lovely little puppy, Yani, in our home in Bere Alston.
My interests include foraging for natural remedies and nourishment from the landscape as I love learning more about the world around us. However, I never take risks with plants I don’t know. I immerse myself in nature by wild swimming, paddle boarding, and walking and I know a lot about the history of Dartmoor, visiting its standing stones, bronze-aged settlements and I have even rewritten some of the famous ghost stories. I play the cornet so I can read and play music, but most of all I believe life is about people and the connections we make. What I really enjoy is being with people!
My Experience
Through my teacher training, professional development, and teaching experience, I have a sound understanding of the individual developmental and learning needs of children. Some need routine, some need lots of variety, but all should be encouraged to pursue their own interests and develop an inquisitive nature. I would do this through exposing them to nature, encouraging exploration of its fauna, flora, and folklore as well as reading books to them and talking them through. Exposure to different social experiences is also essential for children to feel comfortable in different environments with different people and will help them develop skills they need to make friends.
My Qualifications
Fully Qualified Teacher.
My DBS is still in date, however, it is only valid to a specific school. I am very happy to apply for another of these upon request. I can also drive and have my own car. In my free time I cook and I have cooked for different types of occasions and numbers of guests (up to 12) and with housework I can see that something needs doing and just do it without needing to be told.
