About Me

Hi! I’m Josie, and I've worked as an au-pair for a toddler and a newborn and as a children's club volunteer. I'm a responsible, caring, enthusiastic individual who loves to work with children :)

I have lots of experience looking after children, being the oldest sibling of 3. My brother is 10 years younger than me so I spent a lot of time looking after him as a baby/toddler. Furthermore, I worked as an au pair in Belgium in the summer of 2022 where I cared for a 1 1/2 year old little girl. I helped teach her English, cooked for her, played games with her took her on walks, bathed her and changed her nappy. She also had a newborn baby sister who I often looked after as well.

I have also previously volunteered at a children’s after-school club, where the children were between the ages of 4-12. In this role, I played games with the children and did activities like drawing and baking. Lastly, I have lots of customer service and retail experience, where I have developed my communication skills. One of these roles was actually in the children’s department in Harvey Nichols.

I'm currently a postgraduate student, studying MSc Public Policy at the University of Bristol. I’m so excited about the prospect of working with children again, as it’s something I really enjoy and I’m passionate about. Look forward to hearing from you :)

My Experience

I worked as an au pair in Belgium in the summer of 2022 for 3 months where I cared for a 1 1/2 year old little girl. I helped teach her English, cooked for her, played games with her took her on walks, bathed her, changed her nappy and put her to bed. Although I was employed as an au pair, I actually ended up working a lot more hours and essentially being a nanny - I worked usually over 40 hours a week.

I have also previously volunteered at a children’s after-school club, where the children were between the ages of 4-12. In this role, I played games with the children and did activities like drawing and baking. I did this for 6 months for a few hours every week. Some of the children here had special educational needs such as Autism and ADHD, so I have experience with this as well.

I am the oldest of 3 siblings and so growing up I looked after them a lot. I’m 10 years older than my brother, so I used to change his nappy, play with him, feed him, get him dressed etc, probably for around 4 hours a week. Lastly, I have lots of customer service and retail experience, where I have developed my communication skills. I've worked in my local pharmacy, in Boots, and also in the children’s department in Harvey Nichols.

My Qualifications

I have first-aid training, DBS check, and plenty of experience. Being an au-pair did not require formal qualifications but I have certainly demonstrated my childcare skills by essentially being a live-in nanny for 3 months.

My Availability

I have classes at university on Monday and Tuesday afternoons as well as Wednesdays mornings. I'm free all day Thursdays and Friday, and from the end of April I'll be fully flexible since I will no longer have any in-person classes.
