Hello there!
I am Amelia, a 24 year old child care practitioner! I graduated with a 2:1 BA in Early Childhood Studies; since graduating I have dedicated my time toward children in many different realms! Professionally and personally, I am passionate about children and their well-being and I am fascinated with children’s literature.
At university, I completed a TEFL certificate and have since taught English as a foreign language in Italy four times to children aged between 5-12. Recently I have completed a further 120 hour TEFL course and certificate to expand my understanding in pedagogy and better my skills as a practitioner.
I also have experience working in nurseries, including the baby room where I had the pleasure of being part of the day-to-day routine of the babies, focusing on how they found connection to music and story telling.
Additionally, I have volunteered to support adolescents with learning disabilities in a creative element, painting and theatrical work and I have volunteered for the candlighters cancer charity trust. Recently, I volunteered with the Bookmark reading programme to support a little boy in year two with his reading journey. It was wonderfully enriching and brightened up my week!
My experience is exceptionally broad for someone of my age; my degree focused on understanding children’s development aged 0-8, as well as varied additional study on topics from social policy to children’s literature, and since graduating I’ve worked with babies right up to children that are 12 years old.
Aside from academic and professional interests, I have had British sign language lessons and I write childrens stories in my spare time! Last year, I went to Barnes childrens literature festival and volunteered on both Julia Donaldson and Michael Morpurgo’s stand. I absolutely love to create stories with children and engage their imaginations and creativity.
My life is truly centred towards the magic of working with children and their holistic needs; I am optimistic, friendly and always thankful to be in the presence of children (even when it can be difficult!)

My Experience
Having had an interest in working with children, and spending time baby sitting as a teenager, I embarked on my degree in Early Childhood Studies which I started in September 2017 and finished in June of 2020.
While studying, I completed a 20 hour practical TEFL weekend training and shortly after went to work in Italy as an English Teacher at a summer camp working with children who are 8 years of age and then returning to work with children aged 5-12 years old between 2018 and 2019 at the summer camps.
I have worked in a baby room at a nursery and have had experience in a forest school. I have just finished a 120 hour TEFL qualification to expand my understanding of children learning English as a foreign language.
I have experience working with young adolescents with special needs, engaging in creative experiences with them.
I have recently had experience looking after a five year old, a baby, and I am currently looking after three year old twins.
Wanting to make sure I am well suited to children of different developmental backgrounds, I started to learn BSL at university which I found truly enriching. I graduated university with a 2:1 classification.
